IIE is seeking applicants for a Virtual Exchange Specialist to lead the Student Action Learning and Mentoring (SALAM) Program.
The SALAM Program will connect university students in MENA and the U.S. through a virtual exchange platform to conduct cooperative projects and learn intercultural competencies. The Virtual Exchange Specialist collaborates closely with higher education partners to develop course curricula focused on building cultural and global competencies based on the U.S. Department of Education goals. S/he advises on the curriculum components and pedagogy and trains course educators and mentors on virtual exchange facilitation to enable the achievement of the program goals of institutional and individual participants. The Virtual Exchange Specialist collaborates closely with higher education partners, IIE’s Innovation and Knowledge Management team, and clients on the development of institutional partnerships that leverage virtual technology.
Researches, develops, implements and maintains the virtual exchange curriculum to achieve program objectives. Tailors existing virtual exchange technologies to program needs, develops enhancements and add-ons as necessary
Works with AEL partnership specialists to engage and develop partnerships between U.S. and MENA higher education institutions. Engages in outreach and initiates dialogue to build buy in for this exchange opportunity. Onboards new partners, leads sub-award monitoring.
Leads virtual exchange trainings for course educators and mentors and assists in developing training material for internal team and external users.
Works to raise awareness of virtual exchange, works collaboratively and contributes to thought leadership in the field. Promotes program through in-person events (such as NAFSA) and online methods (writing blog entries, leading webinars, etc.)
Education and Work Experience:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in order to apply a working knowledge of the theories and principles in a specialized field or work discipline.
Requires at least five years of related work experience.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
At least four years of experience working in the area of virtual exchange development and facilitating virtual exchange activities.
Demonstrated ability to develop a VE curriculum at the tertiary level.
Demonstrated track record of initiating, implementing, and successfully leading training on virtual exchange capabilities and skills.
Experience building and maintaining relationships on behalf of an organization, managing relationships, and working with external partners at senior or executive levels.
Ability to influence and communicate cross-functionally and across all levels externally.
Strong technology skills particularly with Slack, Google Hangouts/Drive, Skype, etc.
Capable of operating effectively in ambiguous, constantly-evolving environments.
Ability to interact with all levels of team members and external contacts; sensitive to cultural differences when working with people from other cultures.
Possesses a passion and aptitude for creating compelling content and building cross-cultural relationships in a digital space.
Work Conditions & Physical Demands:
Essential functions are performed in a general office setting with low noise.
