Job Description:

The Participant Initiatives Manager is responsible for implementation of TechWomen program activities related to program participants and pre-participants (applicants). S/he leads the application and selection process to identify program participants and monitors and advises a caseload of approximately 100 participants before and during their fall program in the United States. This position brings best practices in competitive participant application and selection processes to develop, launch, and manage the participant application, lead the implementation of a rigorous selection process, and serve as the face of TechWomen to applicants and selected participants. The Participant Initiatives Manager also serves as the main point of contact (“advisor”) for participants, monitoring their program compliance, progress, and working with each participants and other members of the TechWomen team to ensure successful completion of the program.

TechWomen empowers, connects and supports the next generation of women leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) from Africa, Central and South Asia, and the Middle East by providing them the access and opportunity needed to advance their careers, pursue their dreams, and inspire women and girls in their communities.

Through mentorship and exchange, TechWomen strengthens participants’ professional capacity, increases mutual understanding between key networks of professionals, and expands girls’ interest in STEM careers by exposing them to female role models.

The Institute of International Education (“IIE”) has a hybrid work environment that allows team members a combination of in-office work and telework at any of the locations listed above.

Essential Functions:

• Designs and launches TechWomen participant application in collaboration with IIE colleagues, including IKM.

• Leads application management, including testing of new application systems, management of applicant data transfer into and within IIE systems, handling technical issues, and managing technical review processes based on program requirements

• Oversees applicant communications, including management of inquiries and application reminders.

• Leads selection committee process, including identifying members and facilitators, providing training and resources on the review process, creating and maintaining database and spreadsheet files, facilitating selection meetings, and preparing documentation for U.S. embassy and ECA review.

• Serves as main point of contact for approximately 100 participants.

• Designs and delivers a pre-departure communications and orientation strategy to adequately prepare participants for U.S.-based program.

• Monitors, tracks, and reports on participant progress, conduct, well-being, and program compliance.

• Provides emergency support, connecting participants to local resources and coordinating follow-up, as necessary.

• Maintains participant data in CRM, following established processes.

• In concert with MEL team, develops and implements pre-participant, participant, and alumnae surveys.

• Supports the design and implementation of program events and workshops

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

• Requires a Bachelor's degree and at least two years of related work experience, or combination education and experience.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

• Strong understanding of international participants and ability to manage cultural and counseling issues.

• Ability to manage a large volume of work under severe time constraints and pressures, while demonstrating creativity and suggesting innovative yet practical solutions to new challenges.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, superior writing and editing skills, and a thorough knowledge of the English language.

• Must exhibit maturity, be comfortable with meeting facilitation, and have the ability to use diplomacy in difficult situations.

• Broad knowledge of assessment, training, and advising tools.

• Strong project management and time management skills, as well the ability to prioritize successfully meet deadlines and provide high quality deliverables.

• Strong interest and ability to work effectively in a team environment.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.

• Ability to interact with all levels of staff and clients, ability to exercise discretion on confidential matters.

• Passion for supporting women’s empowerment initiatives, global education, exchange, and training, and/or women in STEM highly encouraged!
