Job Description:

The Director of Global Partnerships is a critical member of the International Programs (IP) department at Louisiana State University. LSU seeks to further develop and expand strategic global partnerships with institutions and organizations abroad. The Director will take the lead in identifying and facilitating global agreements initiated by the Office of International Programs. The Director will also liaise with academic colleges and faculty in developing global partnerships on behalf of the University. As a key player in International Programs, the Director will be responsible for the onboarding of inbounding exchange students and scholars, and all strategic initiatives aiming to further internationalize the campus. The person in this role will report to the Senior Internationalization Officer and Executive Director of International Programs. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

Global Partnerships: Provide outstanding leadership and guidance for International Programs' management and development of global initiatives and engagement. Identify and establish strategic global partnerships aiming to further internationalize the LSU community. Work with faculty and colleges in developing global agreements on behalf of the University. Develop procedures and processes to ensure that global initiatives operate within LSU’s compliance parameters.  Collaborate with the Office of the General Counsel and the Provost Office on matters related to memorandums of understanding (MOUs) to ensure best practices in the process. Collaborate with the Director of Academic Programs Abroad on identifying and establishing student exchange agreements with peer institutions overseas. Coordinate and facilitate visits for delegations from partner and potential institutions and assist in organizing visits for LSU delegations going abroad. Monitor the effectiveness of LSU’s global agreements and ensure activities align with University goals.(45%)

 

Visiting Exchange Students: In collaboration with Academic Programs Abroad (APA) and the International Services Office (ISO), take the lead on integrating exchange students from global partner universities to the LSU community. LSU hosted about 160 exchange students pre-COVID. Offer pre-arrival orientation to exchange students, families, and peer institutions overseas. Work with exchange students and parents on matters pertaining to health insurance, housing accommodations, meal plans, and securing access to campus amenities successfully and without delays. Review and enhance existing policies and processes impacting the on-boarding of exchange students from abroad. Work with the Director of International Student Engagement to ensure proper orientation and inclusive programming with exchange students. Serve as the point of contact for all exchange students and peer universities abroad. Build collaborations with academic departments and units for the purpose of fully integrating exchange students to the campus community during their short-term study abroad programs. (25%)

 

Strategic Initiatives: Play a lead role in strategic activities, including the ACE Internationalization laboratory, which LSU joined as a member of cohort 2021. Coordinate and assist with global activities aiming to further internationalize the campus community. Oversee all International Programs’ faculty grant funding aiming to advance internationalization at LSU. Review and enhance faculty grant application processes for global engagement. Work with the Associate Director of Communications and Marketing to ensure faculty grant opportunities are fully promoted on campus and throughout the University community. (10%)

 

Visiting Scholars: Provide leadership in expanding campus resources, services, and infrastructure to support LSU’s goals to recruit and retain world-class faculty and staff. Coordinate and collaborate with academic departments on matters pertaining to the on-boarding of global scholars. Design and disseminate a protocol for hosting global scholars on campus as part of their on-boarding and introduction to the University. Assist with housing, transportation, and access to campus amenities such as ID cards, university gyms, and office space. In collaboration with ISO, ensure visiting scholars have adequate health insurance during their stay. Work with the Director of International Student Engagement to ensure visiting scholars are included in on campus programming activities.  (15%)

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree with 5 years of direct experience in managing global partnerships in a University setting. 

Degree Substitute: Bachelor's degree + 7 years of direct experience. 1 year experience using technology such as Moove On or Terra Dotta database for partnership agreements may substitute for 1 year of experience.

Specific Experience - Proven track record of collaborating with faculty and campus partners on projects or initiatives. Solid analytical, decision making, and problem-solving skills are critical to this position. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in strategic planning and leading staff effectively. Experience with budgets and financial planning. Previous experience with technology functions such as the Moove On or Terra Dotta database for partnership agreements. Demonstrated effectiveness with fiduciary responsibilities. Experience managing global partnerships at a University.

 

Additional Requirements:

FERPA - As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency.
