Job Details
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Supports international students in their academic, cross-cultural and personal needs. Provides guidance on reporting and seeking help with emergencies in close collaboration with the Dean of Students Office. Works closely with the Graduate School, academic departments, the Counseling and Wellness Center, Student Legal Services, Housing and Resident Life, and other units on campus to support international students’ success. Advises on financial resources, such as GatorAid, Emergency Hardship Scholarship and the Undergraduate Hardship Waiver. Serves as LAC/Linkage liaison for academic departments and managing institutions. Comanages the emergency phone for international students.
- Develops cross-campus and local partnerships to foster international student adjustment and integration to the United States (US), Gainesville, and UF. Presents at workshops for the Graduate School, the Dean of Students Office, Student Legal Services Housing and Resident Life, and the Counseling and Wellness Center, among other departments. May occasionally present workshops to local city community partners.
- Assists students with issues pertaining to relevant government offices, including letters for embassy/consular visa processes, the Social Security Administration (SSA) and the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Assists students with tax related and other legal and administrative issues.
- Serves on various boards and committees relevant to international student support, including but not limited to the UF Mental Health Task Force, UF Financial Aid Committee, International Graduate Student Advisory Board and UF-GIFT.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience

- EXPERIENCE:
Experience with working with international students or in a related international or cross-cultural environment.
- KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of federal rules and regulations pertaining to international students
- Knowledge of UF administrative and academic procedures
- Knowledge of cross-cultural adjustment issues
- SKILLS
- An empathetic and caring personality, with strong inter-personal skills, comfortable with people from any cultural, religious, or ethnic background.
- A demonstrated commitment to supporting international students in all aspects of their studies at UF.
- Mentoring or related skills and a desire to assist students in social, cultural, health and psychological areas affecting their personal development.
