Program Coordinator for Academic Exchange, Study Abroad, & Peer Mentors
Join our dynamic team to coordinate Study Abroad and Exchange programs at UAS! This position is responsible for recruiting for, advising, and supporting students on exchange as well as serving as a liaison to academic programs and program affiliates. Candidates should possess strong program management and customer service skills. Organize recruitment fairs, events, and presentations. Recruit and advise prospective students on how to participate in national and international study away programs. Present options and program policies and procedures. Assist out-going students with the application and selection process, provide program and UAS policies and procedures, and offer pre-departure orientation and bi-annual post/returnee study away conference events. Act as liaison with faculty and staff in advising and trouble-shooting regarding all aspects of academic, social, cultural, and financial needs before and during student’s study away experience. Assist in-coming exchange students with an orientation to UAS and all aspects of student placement: course selection and registration; housing and meals; introduction to community and cross-cultural living. Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting throughout the semester or year-long placement period.
Program leader and administrator for university consortia agreements and/or affiliations including, but not limited to National Student Exchange Program (NSE) and International Student Exchange Program (ISEP). Maintain records and fulfill administrative program requirements for consortia agreements/affiliations such as membership reports and annual website updates; develop and follow campus-specific policies and procedures; apply needs of all constituents (consortia, university, and students) to improvements, complex problems, and goals; analyze and resolve programmatic issues when needed; set annual goals and objectives; oversee application process, interviews, selection and facilitation of placements for exchange and study abroad students; offer support to Ketchikan and Sitka campuses for all program-related promotion, student recruitment, and placements; partner with UAF and UAA offices of exchange and study abroad; work with Financial Aid to administer bi-lateral international study agreements with individual institutions or programs on behalf of UAS students who choose to study with a program outside of the consortia agreements/affiliations. Attend annual consortia meetings and conferences as required.
Recruit, hire, train, and supervise student employees to run the day-to-day operations of the Student Resource Center (SRC). The SRC serves as a focal point for prospective and current students to receive academic and social/emotional support. Ensure efficient and effective customer service and confidentiality for a wide range of functions, including but not limited to admissions, tours, and general incoming questions about UAS, academic and career advising, counseling, disability services, and the UAS health clinic.
Coordinating with the Director of Admissions to set goals and targets and reporting regularly on the progression toward goals.

Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Alaska Driver's License
- One year of supervisory experience
- Strong writing and presentation skills. Authentic communication skills. Comfort with speaking in front of groups of people. Experience working with diverse populations.
- Knowledge of UAS academic programs, admissions, financial aid, and advanced placement.
- Demonstrated experience in student advising or related activity and comparable experience in international/intercultural settings.
- Experience with program administration/project management in educational or non-profit organizations.
- Experience with national and international exchange and study abroad program administration policies and regulations.
- Experience with Immigration and Naturalization Services regulations and SEVIS (Student Exchange and Visitor Information Services) procedures.
- Web design and desktop publishing skills.
This is a full-time,11-month, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA salary schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
