The mission of the Christa McAuliffe Charter School is to cultivate within each member of a diverse student body an intense commitment to self and community, the courage and insight to set high standards for academic and personal success, and the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to achieve those standards.

McAuliffe, located in Framingham, Massachusetts, is a 20-year-old charter middle school (grades 6-7-8) educating nearly 400 scholars who live in Framingham and other MetroWest communities. We are a credentialed EL Education network school. EL Education is a non-profit organization devoted to providing network schools with a model of school reform that emphasizes high achievement through active learning, character growth, and teamwork.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Christa McAuliffe Charter School Director of Student Services position is perfect for a veteran professional in special education who is eager to serve a mission-driven school. This position requires organization and project management skills as well as soft skills that support the development of trusting relationships with staff, families, and other stakeholders.

Reports to: Executive Director

Supervises Direct Reports: Special Education Coach, Special Education Coordinator, EL Teacher/Coordinator, Speech & Language Specialist, Reading Specialist, Psychologist, School Adjustment Counselor, inclusion assistants

Manages: Provider contracts for special education services, contract management for remote educational services (e.g. tutoring, hospitalization, etc)

Lead or Co-Lead for: Special Education Team, Crisis Response Team

Committee Participant for: Student Support Squad, led by the school's Director of Student Culture; Grade Level Team Plus meeting, Instructional Leadership Team as well as RTI meetings.

Collaborate with the Admissions Team to educate prospective families on Special Education and ELL programs at McAuliffe.

LEADERSHIP: Ensures that practices in all settings reflect high expectations for quality of effort and work, engage all students, and are personalized to accommodate diverse identities, learning styles, needs, interests, and levels of readiness. Sets the vision for excellence for the leader's department or team. In collaboration with partners on the McAuliffe leadership team, use EL Education core practices to create a culture of inclusion, belonging, and achievement that permeates the school. In a cycle of continuous improvement, adjust any practices that do not contribute to a transformative organization culture consistent with McAuliffe's mission, vision, core values, and operating norms.

SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM: Lead the Special Education Department by establishing vision (aligned with school vision), priorities, and setting clear standards for the following: Case Management, Service Delivery, Co-Teaching, Parent Communication, IEP/504 meeting preparation and participation. Oversee quality of IEP and 504 annual meetings (facilitated by Special Education Coordinator); Participate in transition meetings and annual meetings as needed. Facilitate the Initial Evaluation and Three Year Evaluation process and meetings, which includes coordination with school psychologist and evaluators.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNER PROGRAM: Oversee the school's program to support English language learners including the following: Curriculum; instruction; assessment data to inform instruction. Support the school's ELL teacher with the coordination of ELL assessment (ACCESS) and alignment of curriculum with WIDA.

TRAINING: Set clear expectations for special education processes ensuring efficiency and coherence; Train, coach, and manage those involved to ensure strong systems are implemented. Ensure school employees are annually trained on pertinent special education and ELL processes, procedures, laws, and regulations.

COMPLIANCE: Ensure compliance with special education laws and regulations. Ensure the school's compliance with ELL laws and regulations including: CPR corrective action planning; Transition and identification processes; Parent involvement and communication.

STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT, PARTNERSHIP: Build relationships with district special education leaders, local collaboratives, and the school's attorney; communicate with individuals as needed and during cases that involve change in placement, manifest determination, and 45 day evaluation. Build relationships with parents/guardians through regular communication and the Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC).

PROGRAM EVALUATION: Facilitate an annual evaluation of McAuliffe's special education programming including identification of areas in need of improvement. Facilitate annual evaluation of ELL programming including identification of areas in need of improvement.

MANAGEMENT OF CONTRACTED SERVICES: Manages the contracting and payment of contracted service providers. Oversees work quality and timeliness of deliverables.

STATE/FEDERAL ENGAGEMENT: conducts state-mandated program review/evaluations, medicaid eligibility process, and development of grant applications and reporting in collaboration with the Director of Business and HR.
