Summary

The School of Social Work Office of Student Services and Enrollment Management (OSS) seeks a candidate to provide assistance with recruitment, admissions, student support, and financial aid counseling. This candidate will work as part of a team of admissions counselors, and will serve as the lead contact for prospective students interested in the Online MSW Program.

The candidate in this position will work as a member of a high functioning unit with a myriad of interactions across administrative units within the School of Social Work including the MSW Online Program Director's Office, Dean's Office, Associate Deans' Offices, the SSW Career Center, and Office of Field Education. The candidate will report directly to the Director of Student Services.

Responsibilities*

Provide admissions services including:
  • Evaluate applications for admission and attend Admission Review Team meetings
  • Assist with pre-admission interviews
  • Contact applicant recommenders to gather information for admissions decisions
  • Review admission offer letters for accuracy
  • Notify students of their admission to the program

Provide recruitment services:
  • Recruit for the MSW program including in-person & online meetings, state and national travel to college campuses and professional conferences, informational presentations, webinars, online chat, and email outreach
  • Meet individually with prospective and admitted students
  • Work collaboratively with MasterTrack Certificate Coordinator to run prospective student webinars
  • for the MasterTrack MSW and Online program
  • Work with the Communications team to develop and review webpages, ads, and promotional materials for the MasterTrack Certificate and Online MSW program
  • Serve as contact for recruitment efforts with Coursera and Center for Academic Innovations
  • Survey students regarding recruitment and admissions related issues

MasterTrack Certificate Monitoring/Registration Assistance:
  • Monitor MasterTrack certificate progress and provide outreach to students pursuing the MSW degree.
  • Connect students with MasterTrack Certificate Program Coordinator for Coursera or MasterTrack course support.
  • Assist in MSW course registration audit for incoming online students
  • Work closely with the MT coordinator to ensure a warm handoff with students interested in pursuing an MSW degree.

Provide Student Services Support:
  • Assess the unique needs of remote students and implement appropriate student services
  • Educate remote students on services available at U-M and the School of Social Work
  • Plan and run an information session for admitted students each semester
  • Assist with planning and implementation of orientation for incoming online students
  • Assist with graduation needs for online students

Provide financial aid services:
  • Communicate financial aid options to prospective, incoming, and current online students
  • Assist with financial aid reviews for incoming and continuing online MSW students for need-based scholarships, merit-based scholarships, and donor scholarships

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, excellent problem-solving abilities, ability to understand and improve upon complex processes, strong attention to detail, and ability to coordinate multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential materials and situations.
  • Ability to travel for recruitment.
  • Ability to work some evenings to support online learners.

Desired Qualifications*

Master of Social Work Degree
  • 3-5 years of experience in student recruitment, academic advising, admissions, student services, and financial aid counseling.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the University of Michigan School of Social Work On-Campus, Online, and MasterTrack MSW programs.
