The Associate Director of Admissions is responsible for leading and growing a team of Admissions Advisors while also serving as a working manager supporting new students through their educational selection process. This role leads by example through the consistent achievement of individual objectives while also managing the team’s achievement of objectives in support of the University’s objectives.

Responsibilities

Management and Supervision; Admissions:
  • Serve as a working manager to obtain individual enrollment objectives while ensuring direct reports reach individual objectives. Oversee daily activity of PM’s to achieve individual and team goals.
  • Effectively translate and motivate others to translate ideas into actions.
  • Set and maintain high performance standards for self and others that support the overall strategic plan and vision of the department, campus and organization as a whole; hold self and others accountable for achieving results.
  • Develop successful team of Admissions through effective onboarding, performance management, training and development. Effectively translate and motivate others to translate ideas into actions.
  • Collaborate and provide complex problem resolution to direct reports, students and other colleagues and when necessary escalate to the Director of Admissions.
  • Model a high level of integrity in all interactions; maintain individual and team adherence to all University, governmental, accreditation policies, regulations, and code of conduct at all times.
  • Foster and nurture sincere, positive, motivational and collaborative inter and intra-departmental relationships to include effective and timely communication and problem resolution in addition to identifying and recommending process improvement opportunities.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of Admissions department and processes, University program and degree offerings. Serve as a subject matter expert related to programs, process, tuition, etc.
  • Demonstrate and able to explain general understanding of reasoning behind key organizational policies, practices and procedures, and ability to assist employees with their comprehension and demonstration of the same.
  • Model the ability to adapt to unexpected challenges that interfere with competing tasks or projects, effectively strive to overcome barriers and resolve challenging situations. Advocate for change when it promotes overall organizational goals.
  • Maintain timely, responsive and consistent communication with students from initial conversations/contact through the first quarter of enrollment to ensure student receives support and understands expectations, next steps and procedures. Provide all students (prospective and otherwise) with a positive student experience.
  • Acts as liaison between prospective/applied student and required/requested student service areas such as advising, financial aid, student support to ensure all appropriate admission steps are complete in a timely manner allowing the student to start classes as expected.
  • Effectively organize and prioritize activities to ensure assigned students have appropriate access to services and admissions information. Manage student inquiries and applications, engage in regular outreach and follow-up with students, setting appointments and conducting informational interviews.
  • Responsible for the overall maintenance of accurate, complete and timely student records, trackers and other related documentation and records.
  • Conduct, attend and participate in team, Admissions, campus staff and related University meetings and events for the purpose of obtaining and sharing information.

Reporting Relationships:

The Associate Director of Admissions reports directly to the Director of Admissions with a dotted line to the Regional Admissions Vice President. This role manages, supervises and directs the work of Admissions Advisors within their team.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Minimum of four years of relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in an educational services, admissions counseling, customer service, and/or employee recruitment environment.
  • Prefer one year of prior management and/or combination of “lead” responsibility of direct reports.
  • General knowledge of the higher education industry preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as the University and student needs dictate including evenings and weekends.
  • Proven customer service experience in a professional environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication and listening skills with the ability to effectively articulate and present information and work closely with all members of the organization.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and able to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to foster positive, collaborative, solution-oriented teamwork.
  • Results-oriented, motivational approach that embraces and drives change in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple priorities, meet deadlines and maintain flexibility.
  • High level of professional ethics and etiquette.
  • Ability to develop diverse and successful teams, think strategically and provide thoughtful leadership.
  • Excellent written communication and strong verbal communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Must have strong command of the English language, in both oral and written form.
