OVERVIEW:

Responsible for the advising and guiding of adult learners and the promotion and maintenance of community partnerships.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
• Organize and conduct program orientation for morning and evening ESOL students.
• Assist adult learners with setting job and career goals; provide relevant information to facilitate achievement; and assist identifying any potential barriers and necessary support services.
• Conduct follow-up and track students' progress towards goals.
• Advise students and make referrals to appropriate community services.
• Coordinate student activities and maintain participant attendance records.
• Maintain statistical and demographic data as needed for program reports and activity planning.
• Coordinate and supervise all activities related to the Student Reward Program.
• Organize and maintain information for student attendance awards and goal achievements.
• Promote student participation and leadership at school and in the community.
• Work closely with the director and teachers implementing programs and services for adult learners.
• Work with partners at the City and local CBOs on issues relating to Adult Learners as needed and participate in community networks (medical organizations, government programs, community organizations, education- related organizations, advocacy organizations, among others).
• Develop programs and initiatives to address student needs, including presentations in classrooms, information sessions, and participation in community activities.
• Provide assistance and oversee the development of the monthly school newsletter.
• Work flexible hours, bring services to the evening program and attend evening meetings when needed.
• Develop and maintain appropriate contact with students to determine needs and provide assistance.
• Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations to facilitate student access to services.
• Document program's services and activities.
• Implement surveys and analyze data to determine needs among the students and prepare reports to the Program Director and/or other agencies as required.
• Prepare and disseminate educational and informational materials to students and staff through various information sources.
• Provide assistance on activities related to the Community Parentship initiative.
• Promote, recruit, and oversee MassSTEP programs.
• Coordinate and represent the organization in community initiatives. For example: Census, Covid-19 vaccination rollout, community needs assessment surveys, among others.
• Attend and facilitate meetings as required by the Program Director.
• Collaborate with Adult Education staff and community organizations to create and/or implement education initiatives.
• Participate in school trainings and planning activities as directed.
• Perform other duties as may be required by the Program Director.

REPORTS TO: Abisi Adult Education Center Director

SALARY RANGE: $60,000-$70,000 (grant funded)

WORKYEAR: 12- Month position / unaffiliated

Job Requirements

  • QUALIFICATIONS;
    • Bilingual Spanish/English, Portuguese/English or Khmer/English preferred.
    • Bachelor's degree
    • A minimum five years' experience working with adult learners, immigrants and as a community liaison.
    • Community Health Work certification/training preferred.
    • Interpreter certification/training preferred.
    • Experience in group facilitation and planning with diverse populations.
    • Ability to work independently to achieve goals and responsibilities.
    • Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and apply information.
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of second language students, school staff, and the public.
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
    • Experience with and knowledge of immigration policies and ability to provide professional advice in this area.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
    • Ability to understand and be sensitive to the needs of disadvantaged groups and formulate and implement solutions with the premise of equitable access.
    • Experience implementing health and civics educational programs.
    • Experience advising students with international credentials.
    • Knowledge of community resources and community agencies.
    • Ability to manage a large volume of information and apply math and statistical concepts and interpret graphs.
    • Detail oriented. Ability to multitask and prioritize various job duties as assigned in a busy, multicultural adult learning environment.
    • Strong computer skills in Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, email platforms, iOS, database management software, virtual meeting tools, and online productivity tools.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to document services into databases as needed.
    • Strong customer service skills.
    • Management experience.

  • High School/Trade School degree preferred
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
