*Organizational Unit Overview:*The Division of Student Affairs actively supports the University’s missions of education, research, and service by providing comprehensive programs and services to assist each student in developing intellectually, socially, morally, and culturally. The Division anticipates students’ developmental needs throughout their collegiate experiences and promotes students development by fostering a community of learning, which encourages individual student involvement and participation. The Division of Student Affairs provides a broad range of support services, activities, and programs that seek to: Assist students in developing respect and appreciation for individual differences, interpersonal civility, and human rights. Enhance the learning environment, facilitate retention, and optimize the student experience. Accommodate the diverse needs of all students. Support a community environment that is welcoming, safe, and secure. Assist students in meeting their basic needs for housing, nutrition, and physical and emotional well-being. Moreover, the division seeks to contribute to the development of the whole individual by fostering in each student a deeper appreciation of the importance of life-long learning, individual responsibility, and human diversity. Through collaboration, the division provides programs and services that are grounded in theory, assessment, and sound practice.

The Department of Student Engagement houses both the Fraternity and Sorority Life office and the Student Organization Center: providing advising, support, leadership development, and resources to over 35 fraternities and sororities and more than 45 + registered student organizations.The office also supports the Student Activities Board which provides weekly programming for the campus community, plans and executes the largest campus traditions, offers leadership development for Student Activities Board members, and much more.

The Office of Student Engagement is supported by the Student Involvement and Leadership (SIL) unit within East Carolina University’s Division of Student Affairs. SIL enhances the educational experience for all students by helping to build a sense of campus community through a wide variety of programs and services for individuals and student groups. Through a broad range of co-curricular, cultural, educational, recreational, and social programs, SIL supports the university’s commitments of student success, public service, and regional transformation. The unit is composed of five departments; Student Engagement, Intercultural Affairs, Campus Recreation and Wellness, Student Transitions, and Student Centers.
*Job Duties :*The primary purpose of the Assistant Director of Programming position is to lead and advise the committees of the Student Activities Board in the areas of program planning, implementation, and evaluation. This position will aid in the holistic development of ECU students by developing, planning, promoting, staffing, and assessing a wide range of diverse events/programs for the campus community. This position will also promote student-learning objectives for all programs and services that are provided within the Department of Student Engagement. This position will implement and utilize student development theory as it relates to job responsibilities and promote the understanding of regional, state, national, and global issues.

Responsibilities and Duties

• This position will advise the President and Vice President, along with designated committees.

• Implement a diverse programming schedule that includes multiple weekly events for over 100 educational programs and shared social experiences a year.

• Maintain a knowledge of program opportunities, contact agents and artists management, negotiate program contracts, ensure program publicity, and assist with program production and house management.

• Lead the management of the Student Activities Board committee budgets and assist with the management and allocation of the full Student Activities programming budget.
• Ensure event logistics are well coordinated.

• Assist with the facilitation, planning, and coordination of annual training/retreat/leadership development opportunities for the student leaders in the Student Activities Board.

• Lead regular meetings related to the execution of Student Activities Board events.

• Create, implement, and report the assessment results that examine the effectiveness, attractiveness, relevance, and impact of the programs supported by the office and the Student Activities Board.

• Manage potential risks and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.

• Hire, train, and supervise a graduate assistant for programming to assist with Student Activities Board programs, major events, and the office programming.

• Support late night and weekend programming initiatives.

• Support the facilitation of major events such as, but not limited to, Pirate Palooza, Halloween Havoc, and Barefoot on the Mall that happen throughout the year.

• Serve as on-site contact for various programs and events.
• Advise ECU students and staff on university policies and procedures that affect programming.

• Serve on various Divisional and University-wide committees as assigned.

• Present at national conferences and publish articles on programming, leadership development, marketing, or other areas of expertise.

• Other duties as assigned.
*Minimum Education/Experience :*Master’s degree required, in leadership education, college student affairs, higher education administration, student personnel, counseling, or related field; minimum of two years relevant experience in higher education setting. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in a theoretical foundation in the principles and practices of leadership development and student organization advisement desired. Must possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and the willingness to communicate and work effectively with diverse populations. Strong technical background in social media would be an asset for the successful candidate.
