The Director of International Enrollment is a newly-created and elevated position at RWU. The University is on an exciting upward trajectory that includes expanding our global presence and international student enrollment. Our president, Ioannis Miaoulis, is originally from Greece and prior to RWU served as Dean at Tufts University and President of the Boston Museum of Science. After he joined in summer 2019, and after RWU served as a nationally-recognized model for successfully navigating the COVID pandemic, we are refocused on our international efforts. Our new strategic plan establishes key points of distinction that are designed to attract and benefit a diverse community, including attracting international students. We offer generous merit scholarships to international students and have a national championship sailing program that annually recruits both domestic and international athletes from all parts of the world. This is a key position to take our enrollment efforts to the next level and has the full, collaborative support of every University department. The right candidate for this position is someone who loves to build something exciting, is creative and proactive, is highly collaborative and strategic, and has a passion for international students and global higher education.

The Director of International Enrollment develops and executes a strategic international enrollment plan to expand, build, and sustain international student enrollment. This includes international first-year and transfer undergraduate admissions and international graduate student admission. The Director focuses on actively growing and nurturing pivotal relationships and collaborating with academic and School of Law leaders, among other key RWU stakeholders. The Director provides leadership and proactive support for the overall admission mission, working closely with the Director of Recruitment and Dean of Admission. The position reports to the Dean of Admission with a dotted line to the Vice President for Enrollment Management.

Leadership and Strategic Planning
  • Develop and execute a strategic international enrollment plan that supports the strategic admission plans and the University strategic plan.
  • Identify, develop, manage and enhance institutional partnerships abroad by working with key University stakeholders. These include the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the Provost, Associate Provost, and Institution Advancement and Admission staff and other leaders.
  • Supervise admission staff member(s) as assigned.
  • Manage the budget for International recruitment

Thought Leadership and Expertise
  • Utilize international expertise, research, analysis, and benchmarking to nimbly respond to current and future trends. Revise strategies and update the admission strategic plans based upon territory and student search statistics and student activity. Prepare regular reports for senior management.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of international enrollment trends, applicable regional and cultural trends and characteristics, and visa and financing requirements for international students.

Student Recruitment
  • Develop and manage the student recruitment plans to attract international students from determined geographic areas.
  • Strategically execute recruitment and relationship-building activities into the plans to support University-wide enrollment goals.
  • Continue to build and nurture relationships with college counselors, independent counselors, transfer advisors, agents, and other RWU ambassadors to develop a wide base of prospects for expansion of the University's recruitment efforts. This includes developing and executing comprehensive strategic communication plans, organizing, executing and hosting on-campus, off-campus and virtual events.
  • Collaborate and assist with domestic recruitment and admission efforts, including counseling prospective students, as needed.
  • Identify two-year college prospects for partnership and articulation agreements. Build and maintain relationships with international student transfer advisors and educational agents. Initiate, complete, and maintain articulation agreements.
  • Cultivate relationships with government agencies and embassies in the U.S. and abroad along with key international government agencies in developing and executing an international recruitment plan.
  • Maintain relationships with RWU alumni and coordinate and connect with them in the recruitment process. Develop and nurture regional alumni ambassador communities in collaboration with the Office of Alumni Relations.
  • Recommend new avenues and activities to meet international student enrollment levels.

Marketing and Communication Strategy
  • ?Develop, oversee, and execute strategic, multi-channel marketing and communication plans targeted to various international audiences that support and maximize results. These audiences include prospective students, parents, counselors, and agents.
  • Collaborate with senior marketing team and the University Marketing office on these plans and efforts to ensure that they align with larger campaigns in tone, brand and guidelines. Initiate and execute market research activities when appropriate (i.e. student focus groups, surveys) to inform and evolve then marketing and communication plan.
  • Track, benchmark, report and adjust plans as necessary, based upon metrics.

Admission Review
  • Regularly review and update admission criteria and requirements for international student applicants in collaboration with the Dean of admission and Director of Graduate Admission.
  • Execute the criteria for the assessment of an applicant's academic credentials and the acceptance policies associated with making sound decisions that meet the enrollment mission and goals of the University.
  • Oversee and guide applicants, admitted, and enrolled students through the I-20 process.
  • Provide information and guidance on financing the RWU degree, including relevant options for non-US citizens.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with admitted students, advising on such matters as admission standards degree requirements, academic and extracurricular University life, University culture and the logistics of visiting and/or living on or off campus.
  • Serve as primary liaison and expert consultant to the international graduate admission process.

Committee Participation
  • Participate as a member of and co-chair admissions related University committee.

University Collaboration
  • Collaborate with relevant divisions and departments to plan and execute University international strategies and to support the nurturing of University relationships. This includes collaboration with the Provost and other academic leaders in Advancement, Alumni, and Law School.
  • Collaborate with Student Life and Advising to support new student Orientation planning and facilitation for international students.

Additional Functions
  • Participate, as necessary, in other technical and/or professional admissions matters as delegated by the Dean of Admission or Vice President of Enrollment Management.
  • Participate in all admission events such as open houses and admitted student days.

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Minimum seven years of progressive admission and/or higher education experience.
  • Expertise in international recruitment, with a thorough understanding and demonstrated knowledge of global higher education trends and the impact of the global economy to international recruitment.
  • Demonstrated success with developing and executing strategic plans.
  • Experience with effective collaboration across departments.
  • International travel experience with world view knowledge of different cultures and the global marketplace.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must possess valid driver's license and passport. Ability to travel domestically and internationally 30-40% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Prior experience in a lead admission role.
  • Supervisory experience with full-time, professional staff members.
  • Foreign language fluency.
  • Experience with Slate.

Salaries for new hires at Roger Williams University usually fall between the minimum and midpoint salary ranges.

$73,270 - $90,030
