Job Description:
To provide prospective students, their families and school counselors with information about MSMU as well as support during the admission process. To direct recruitment activities within given geographical areas for prospective students and evaluate applicants for admission to MSMU. Oversee major recruitment programs, both on ground and online, and assist the Director with program planning and mentoring of new staff members.
*Duties/Responsibilities:*
* Coordinate and manage select recruitment programs for prospective students and their families, as well as counselors from high schools, community colleges and community-based organizations. This may include oversight of special initiatives and programs as well as large scale events in collaboration with the Events Manager.
* Engage with prospective MSMU students to generate applications for admission. To be accomplished by planning and executing a schedule of in-person and virtual recruitment activities including information sessions, high school and community-based organization visits, college nights and fairs, workshops and presentations. This includes managing all travel arrangements within a stipulated budget.
* Cultivate positive relationships with counseling staff at high schools and community-based organizations so they can partner with the University in generating applications for admission.
* Work closely with prospective students and applicants through the admissions process via phone, email, texting and personal contact.
* Analyze and evaluate admission application documents (i.e. school transcripts, test scores, references, essays and resumes) for assigned recruitment territories.
* Plan and execute on- and off-campus programs, as well as virtual programs, for prospective students and their parents, high school and community college counselors, and independent educational consultants to generate interest in MSMU.
* Interact in a professional manner with a variety of constituents outside of the University who are in a position to influence prospective students.
* Maintain a visible relationship on both MSMU campuses and represent the Admission Office in the absence of the Director or Associate Director of Admission.
* Supervise admission counselors and student staff with regard to their recruitment, evaluation, and matriculation responsibilities. This includes their program and event planning duties.
* Assist with the training and mentoring of new staff members along with other Admission Department leadership.
*Other duties and responsibilities:*
* Organize, plan and execute programs designed to support the overall recruitment efforts of the MSMU Admission Office.
* Participate in professional association meetings (e.g. Western Association of College Admissions Counselors) when appropriate.
* Work evenings and weekends, as needed.
* Perform other duties, as assigned.
Requirements:
*Knowledge:*
* Working knowledge of the structure of college admissions and of public and private high school counseling analysis of transcripts and standardized admission tests; and the role of an Associate of Arts degree versus a Bachelor's degree
* Understanding of financial aid policies and procedures is required
*Abilities and Skills: *
* Able to independently exercise sound judgement, discretion, and initiative to address problems and develop practical though creative solutions
* Consistently meet deadlines
* Effectively manage multiple projects and follow through to completion
* Demonstrate professionalism and comfort in speaking to groups and individuals from diverse backgrounds.
* Work well alone and in a team
* Exercise excellent organizational ability, prioritization, customer service, oral/written communication, as well as interpersonal, public relations and presentation skills
* Possess high energy level along with patience and flexibility
* Willing and able to travel extensively
* Possess a valid California driver's license and reliable vehicle
* Good sense of direction and/or ability to read maps is very helpful

*Education: *
* Bachelor of Arts degree, preferably from a small liberal arts institution
* Participation in national and/or regional professional organizations helpful
*Experience:*
* Minimum of three years of experience working in a high school or an institution of higher learning (e.g. in counseling, admissions or as a teacher/faculty member) or related field
