General Description:

The ExCEL Student Services Specialist provides guidance, resources, and support to students in the ExCEL program. Student advisement responsibilities include the development of academic, career, and transfer plans, use of an early warning process, and biweekly class visits to ExCEL classes to encourage student engagement and ensure academic progress. The Student Services Specialist researches, coordinates, and facilitates transfer and career workshops, coordinates weekly meetings with ExCEL faculty to review student progress, organizes grant engagement activities and educational field trips/conferences for ExCEL students, and teaches the ExCEL section of the UCC 101: College Success course. In collaboration with the Title V Project Director, the Student Services Specialist supports the implementation of the grant project and the achievement of grant objectives.

Characteristics, Duties and Responsibilities:

• Researches, develops, and implements strategies to meet ExCEL grant objectives related to, but not limited to experiential learning, student retention and engagement, transfer, career planning, and advisement for students in Education, Business and Graphic Design courses.

• Advises ExCEL students on academic, transfer, and career goals through a proactive advising model that includes weekly outreach to students and coordination with ExCEL faculty.

• Utilizes virtual advising and retention tools to promote ExCEL student success.

• Teaches the ExCEL section of the UCC 101: College Success course.

• Coordinates and facilitates ExCEL student engagement activities including educational field trips and local conferences and educational workshops.

• Assists Title V ExCEL Project Director with the supervision of ExCEL Leaders.

• Coordinates and conducts training for ExCEL Leaders.

• Collects data and assesses results of student development initiatives, as assigned. Recommends modifications to existing services based on data-informed decision-making.

• Prepares and submits reports to the Title V ExCEL Project Director, as required.

• Collaborates with the ExCEL Project Staff, ExCEL faculty, and ExCEL Program Advisory committee on student success and retention initiatives.

• Performs additional related duties as assigned.

Education Requirements:

• Master's degree in a related field required.

Experience:

• Title V Grant, EOF , or related cohort-based program experience working directly with students is preferred.

• Bilingual (Spanish/English), preferred.

• Familiarity with Ellucian Colleague, Business Objects, Canvas, and project management tools, preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

• This position's duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.

• Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

• Some travel required.
