Position Overview
Galen College of Nursing is looking for a Veteran & Military Student Coordinator to exceed both internal and external expectations by providing information, guidance, and support regarding various types of financial assistance, including, but not limited to Veteran's Educational Benefits, to facilitate the enrollment, persistence, and completion of students, consistent with the College's mission.*
*Responsibilities:
- Serve as an expert and authority in all aspects in the provision of benefits, support services, and activities for military and veteran students at Galen College of Nursing, including but not limited to:
o Maintain current knowledge and compliance with all VA policies and procedures.
o Maintain facility programs and approvals in VA Once in conjunction with the College Compliance Department.
o Certify VA Educational Benefits in VA Once each term in a timely manner.
o Award expected VA Educational Benefits in the College Student Information System.
o Maintain accurate records in VA Once through certification amendments, adjustments, and terminations, as necessary
o Coordinate and oversee any VA Audits conducted at the Campus in conjunction with the College Compliance Department.
o Guide in the areas of Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) educational benefits and eligibility, educational objectives and degree/vocational opportunities
- Assist and guide incoming students and parents through the enrollment process, including but not limited to:
o Contact potential students about missing/incomplete documents.
o Assist potential students with completion of forms as needed.
o Review financial aid application for accuracy and prepare for packaging.
o Prepare paperwork for and conduct Enrollment Appointment with prospective students.
- Assist and guide active students throughout their program, including but not limited to:
o Contact current students about missing/incomplete documents.
o Assist current students with completion of forms as needed.
o Review financial aid application for accuracy and ensure eligible aid is packaged and disbursed in a timely manner.
o At program end, track and document completion of Exit Counseling, following-up with students as necessary.
- Provide continued support and education to students and their parents on topics related to Veteran Benefits and Support Services and Financial Aid, including, but not limited to VA Educational Benefits, Title IV Federal Financial Aid, eligibility, financial literacy, and loan repayment.
- Maintain records in support of and analyze quarterly veteran and military student enrollment, academic progress, and completion reporting. Analyze quarterly data and evaluate the need for necessary early intervention, retention, and support services related to veteran and military students.
- Assist in other phases of financial aid and student support, as necessary.
- Attend financial aid and Veteran Administration training, workshops, and seminars, as necessary.
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree. Equivalent experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.
- Experience working with Federal Financial Aid or Veterans Educational Benefits preferred.
- Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with a diverse group of students, staff, faculty, and the community in a service-oriented environment. Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects while meeting deadlines. Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.
Special Qualifications: Basic knowledge of VA educational benefits. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Must be able to secure access to all Department of Education websites, including, but not limited to NSLDS, COD, CPS, etc. Candidates should have no prior history of student loan default.
Physical/Mental Demands & Work Environment: Must be able to sit at a computer desk for eight hours each day.
