The Department of Political Science and International Relations within the Dornsife College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences is seeking applicants for a Student Services Advisor II position. Known for its outstanding undergraduate opportunities, the POIR department offers five popular undergraduate majors: International Relations, International Relations Global Business, International Relations Global Economy, Intelligence and Cyber Operations, and Political Science. It also features seven minors, and offers fellowship and study abroad opportunities for its majors.

We seek highly motivated candidates with strong communication, organizational, leadership and interpersonal skills, as well as a genuine interest in working with students, staff and faculty involved in undergraduate education. The person will supervise and provide guidance to 4 additional full time undergraduate advisors, and work to facilitate communication between students, staff, and faculty about department events, curriculum requirements and changes. They will report to the POIR Senior Administrator. They will join a team of 10 staff in the Department of Political Science and International Relations. They must have the ability to work in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment, as well as be flexible in the face of changing priorities and fluctuating workloads.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervision of undergraduate advising staff
  • Works with department leadership to develop course scheduling, growth of our majors, and changes to curriculum
  • Counsels or advises prospective students and families on admissions and academic requirements
  • Counsels undergraduate students with records and registration, placement and career services, and student programs.
  • Provides academic counseling for undergraduate students.
  • Provides career information and limited internship placement services
  • Maintains academic unit student records and coordinates registration activities, grading, degree progress, enrollment and degree verification, and transcripts.
  • Plans and coordinates student events including commencement, orientation receptions, and award ceremonies.
  • May supervise student workers
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in student services counseling, and academic advisement.
  • Must have a strong understanding of relevant university policy, including national standards and practices in relevant areas.
  • Demonstrated experience with problem identification and conflict resolution.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Demonstrated strong personal mastery, including ethics, interpersonal skills, and engage in continuous learning.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, adjust to changing priorities and performing well under pressure.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, extreme attention to detail and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Salary range: $33.35 - $37.94 per hour - will commensurate with skills and experience.
