SUMMARY: Provide instructional support to teachers to advance the use of specialized instructional strategies and promote achievement for special education students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide professional and technical program knowledge to include the planning, organization and implementation of special education compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Provide recommendations to staff with regard to special education programs and related services in accordance with P.L. 94-142, P.L. 99-457, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, F.E.R.P.A., and Arizona State Statutes, Rules and Regulations and judicial decisions
  • Provide recommendations to staff with regard to gifted education programs and related services in accordance with P.L. 15-203, 15-761, 15-763, 15-1201, and 15-779
  • Research and provide professional development to staff in federal and state laws and district policies governing special education through multiple modalities
  • Assist department staff in developing, implementing, and maintaining a district program of induction and support for new teachers
  • Serve as project leader for various department projects and programs
  • Provide ongoing instructional coaching to special education teachers and staff
  • Provide guidance in support of IEP/504 teams in the preparation and facilitation of high profile meetings
  • Assist staff in developing special education master schedule by applying appropriate mapping
  • Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned

Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Special Education or related field
  • Valid Arizona teaching certificate
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC)

Experience:
  • Five (5) years teaching experience

Abilities:
  • Read, interpret and analyze general business documents, government regulations, and technical procedures
  • Create and write reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals and various written communication
  • Communicate with large and small groups and respond to questions from parents, students, employees and community members
  • Apply mathematical concepts such as percentages, fractions, and ratios to practical situations
  • Problem solve practical problems and a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Knowledge of Federal and state laws regulating special education services
  • Knowledge of IDEA and ADA laws and regulations
