Admissions Counselor and Student SupportThe George Mason University Office of Admissions is conducting a search for a self-motivated, results-oriented individual for an Admissions Counselor and Student Support position. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.Responsibilities:Staff, train and mentor the Welcome Team who serve the potential students and families who engage with the Office of Admissions;Assist the team in providing stellar customer service and accurate information to a diverse population;Maintain an organized and clean reception area;Understand when and how to escalate prospective student concerns to other members of the Admissions team;Assist and attend recruitment events as assigned;Review applicant files and make appropriate admissions decisions;Participate in day-to-day operational activities;Evaluate undergraduate applications;Conduct information sessions for prospective students and families; andCollaborate with other team members across the university and within the Admissions Office.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience;Demonstrated customer service experience, a few years preferable;Demonstrated skill in effective written and oral communication;Demonstrated analytical skills;Computer literacy and willingness to learn new software applications;Willingness to work with and mentor student employees;Ability to work with significant attention to detail;Ability to work effectively with diverse populations;Ability to demonstrate sensitivity and discretion in the receipt and handling of confidential information;Ability to prioritize tasks in a hectic, deadline-driven environment often working on multiple tasks concurrently;Ability to speak publicly in large and small group situations;Ability to exercise independence in decision-making;Ability to exhibit an amicable and proactive attitude and work effectively under pressure;Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and respectfully as a team member; andAvailability for occasional evening and weekend work.Preferred Qualifications:Experience working in higher education with knowledge of the admissions process is highly desirable;Previous experience working in an office setting;Familiar with Mason's physical campus and surrounding area;Familiar with Mason's diverse population, admissions processes, campus offerings for students, and/or campus events;Previous experience with Ellucian Banner software;Previous experience with Salesforce CRM; andBilingual.
