The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Duke University seeks an Associate Director to join our office leadership team.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced admissions professional with five or more years of progressive experience in highly selective admissions for a college, university, or secondary school.

As a member of the office leadership team, the candidate will supervise a team of admissions officers and other administrative staff. Responsibilities include monitoring performance, recommending various personnel actions including but not limited to, hiring, merit recommendations, and promotions; and training new staff in appropriate recruitment policy.

The Associate Director will also oversee and direct one or more primary office responsibilities. These areas include but are not limited to recruitment strategy; access, equity, and opportunity; campus visit and special event programs; applicant selection; application systems; database management; and/or communications.

He/she/they will be service-oriented and should possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and presentation skills as well as the ability to analyze data to inform decision making. We seek energetic candidates with a strong sense of initiative, the ability to work well independently and in a team, the capacity to manage multiple responsibilities concurrently, and the ability to effectively utilize the Admissions Office database(s).

The candidate should be prepared to be responsible for a full range of recruitment activities including: representing Duke University to students, parents, alumni, and school counselors in a variety of settings; evaluating applications and participating in the selection process; planning on- and off-campus recruitment events; conducting on-campus and virtual information sessions to both large and small groups; working successfully with student volunteers; other duties/projects as assigned by the Dean of Undergraduate Admissions or Associate Deans. All members of the Admissions Officer staff, including Associate Directors, can expect to travel four to six weeks throughout the year.

Desired qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree preferred. Five or more years of progressive experience in highly selective admissions for a college, university, or secondary school; supervisory experience. Excellent writing and public speaking skills, high energy, ability to articulate the benefits of a broad-based liberal arts and science and engineering education are required.

Position requires weekends and extended hours, especially during the fall and from January through April, and proximity to Durham/Research Triangle area of North Carolina. Good judgment, strict confidentiality, and the ability to work collegially in a deadline-driven environment are important. A valid driver’s license and authorization to work in the U.S. are required.

EducationWork requires the analytical, organizational and communications skills generally acquired through a bachelor's degree in a related field.

Experience
