*Scope of Responsibilities:*

The Associate Director, Global Careers will educate and advise students at all levels of academic progress, including DKU undergraduate and graduate students (while in residence in Durham), regarding a variety of career, professional development and internship / job concerns. This position will advise students across all disciplines and is uniquely responsible for developing expertise in the specific career needs of international students. The Associate Director will, create/curate content and develop and deliver programs related to the needs of this particular student population.

Associate Directors in the Career Center are responsible for the development and delivery of training, content, resources and events with an emphasis on their area of expertise, and to effectively utilize e-learning to educate, empower and support students in their intentional professional development. They also contribute to the Center’s development of experiential learning initiatives for students This position will also provide one-on-one advising and group presentations; will plan and host events; will create original media content related to career development for international undergraduate and graduate students regarding a variety of career and professional development and job search concerns, and will advise students in all discipline areas with a focus on supporting the needs of international and DKU students. The Associate Director will provide training and on-going support for all CC staff in the area of global career advising.

This position will serve as the liaison to the Duke Kunshan University Career Center and Office of the Duke Kunshan University Programs at Duke, and will establish strong affiliations with The International House, Visa Services, The Graduate School, and colleagues in the professional schools.
Associate Directors are expected to think creatively about the professional development and educational experience of students and pilot creative approaches that serve constituents any time, any place, creating an effective on-demand experience.

*Duties: %*

* *Advising, and Coaching (30%)*

* Provide 1:1 and group career advising and coaching sessions in person or virtually (on career exploration, career decision-making, internship/job search strategies interviewing, and job search strategies appropriate for international markets and international students in the U.S.
* Create, implement, and promote advising structures, mentoring opportunities, and programmatic ways to support career development for international students and students interested in global careers.

* *Educational Content & Resources (20%)*

* Create, edit, and share content (written, video, etc) and resources that can be used across our platforms that builds meaningful connections and encourages students and campus partners to act while enhancing our Career Everywhere philosophy.
* Create and execute a career development strategy based on knowledge of domestic and international employment trends and insights

* Curate current and high-quality content from the web and other sources to produce credible resources useful to staff, students and alumni.
* Integrate technological resources and platforms including Handshake, Big Interview, Interstride, and uConnect, etc. to support student education and effective use of client and staff time.

* *Teaching, Training and Outreach (15%)*

* In collaboration with the VISA Services team, ensure that both the office as well as the students receive the most up-to-date information about working in the U.S.

* Plan and execute strategy to include employer development/engagement, career advising, campus-wide programs/events, classroom presentations, and services strategically devised for international students and students seeking career opportunities beyond the United States, based on institutional, divisional, and department priorities.
* Present and deliver training through a variety of in-person and digital methods using contemporary best practices.

* *Programs & Major Events (10%)*

* Plan, implement and assess programs and special events that facilitate career exploration, skill development and increase career readiness.
* Develop and sustain relationships across the Duke and external community to support the success of programs and events.
* Coordinate necessary logistics, training and support.
* Collaborate with internal event/marketing support to ensure effective outreach and promotion.

* *Network & Collaboration (Employer & Alumni Relations) (15%)*

* Work with Duke Alumni Network to maintain a global network of alumni to help students connect with opportunities around the world.
* In collaboration with Employer Relations team, establish relations with global network of employers to build opportunities for students.

* *Operations (10%)*

* Leverage institutional data to drive decision making about services offered to this population of students and conduct relevant assessments to understand if services and programs are meeting student needs.
* Educate and enhance the ability of all Career Center Staff to work with international students.
* Survey trends and challenges that impact your work; make informed recommendations for improvement.

* Desired Job- Specific Skills and Competencies:*

* Possess intercultural and global skills and experiences, and understand the domestic and international employment landscape and share this information with key stakeholders (e.g. co-workers, staff, students, employers, and faculty).
* Experience delivering career advising services to international students at all levels of academic progress, undergraduate through PhD.

* Experience with social media platforms, including familiarity with social analytics tools and ability to quickly learn new technology and anticipate new trends.

* Advanced communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences including student and business correspondence as well as the ability to use current communication tools such as blogs, video and social media to deliver Career Center content.
* Strong advising and teaching abilities effective across a diverse and global population particularly in the realms of professional development; career exploration; decision making; and job/internship searches.
* Capacity to balance multiple and varied tasks, meet deadlines, and use well-developed time management and organizational skills.
* Discretion when accessing and handling confidential information.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and ability to learn new technologies.
* Experience with database maintenance and/or familiarity with campus recruiting software, i.e. Handshake
* Some evening and weekend work may be required to oversee student events and activities, along with travel for conferences and relationship development.

Minimum Qualifications

EducationWork requires a master's degree in counseling, student personnel administration or a related field.

Experience
Work requires two years of experience in a college or university career services office or directly related experience.
