Position Title: Program Coordinator, MIT- Arab World Program

Employment Type: Temporary – Hybrid in Cambridge, MA (3rd Party Employer)

Position Overview:

 

Under the direction of the MIT-Arab World Managing Director, the Program Coordinator, MIT- Arab World Program will administer and develop the MIT-Arab World internship and teaching program by advertising the program; recruiting MIT students; maintain standards in interviewing students for admission to the program; maintain guidelines for matching students with academic, industry and teaching placements in the Arab World; overseeing the logistics of placements (travel arrangements, housing, paperwork, insurance); helping to prepare students for their experience abroad; and planning events to raise profile of program on-campus. Office tasks include daily interaction with students, administrators, and hosts; updating databases; managing program accounts; maintaining the program’s website and developing other communication materials. The Coordinator will also provide support for the director of MISTI’s programs in the Middle East region and Associate Director and other MISTI support as needed.

 

 

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions**):

 

Coordinate MIT-Arab World student program (60%): advertising the programs; recruiting MIT students; interviewing and matching students with experiences in the Arab World; logistics of placements; effectively engage with country /hosts; presenting programs in classes and at recruitment events; liaising with departmental contacts across campus in promoting relevant internship opportunities; collect and catalog student reports upon internship conclusion; track student requirements (reports, training attendance); calculate and process student internship stipends.

 

Administrative tasks (40%): Updating databases; managing program accounts; maintaining the programs website and other communication materials; event and travel logistics and preparation; and helping to prepare students for their experiences abroad.

 

High level of independent decision making with recruiting and publicity strategy. Will individually guide undergraduate students in the entire process from application to placement. The Coordinator will match students with opportunities abroad after a general seasonal consultation.

 

 

Other duties as needed or required.

Qualifications & Skills:

 

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree with minimum 2 years’ experience in program administration, including international education and hands-on experience in the Arab World*. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills; meticulous attention to detail with strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills; ability to follow through on tasks, work both independently and as part of a team, interact with a diverse group of faculty, students, staff, and corporate sponsors; and record of using discretion and good judgment with confidential information.  Technical proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database tools like Terra Dotta, Sales Force and Filemaker, and willingness to learn new software and other new skills as needed.

 

 

Occasional weekday evening and weekend work will be required.

 

PREFERRED(*): A Master's degree, hands-on experience in Jordan, written and spoken Arabic and/or
MIT-related experience preferred.
