Salary: $70,000 - $100,000 based on years of experience and level of education

Status: Exempt, Full-Time Position

OVERVIEW OF ROLE

The Director of Student Services: English Language Services (DSS: ELS) will be responsible for supporting our Assistant Principals of Student Services (APSS), ELD Administrators, and ELD teachers across our ten schools in English language development (ELD) and Integrated content language development. The DSS will be responsible for ensuring the school teams have the tools, resources, and support they need to execute legally defensible and culturally responsive ELD programming in their campus settings. The DSS will oversee and ensure the quality implementation of the STRIVE Prep's programming, including clarity of vision, robust training, and ongoing support and development of student services. The DSS will be an advocate for student's language development while keeping accountability as the guiding principle of the job.

  • Has extensive background knowledge in language acquisition, sheltered instruction, and English Language Development.
  • Has at least 3 years of teaching experience working to support language acquisition among MLL students, preferably in an urban school setting.
  • Masters degree in closely related field
  • Has leadership experience in the areas of ELD programming, teacher coaching, and/or leading high-quality professional development.

  • Has a demonstrated track record of success in supporting MLL students.
  • Brings a passion for forging strong relationships with campus professionals while also holding high standards of compliance at STRIVE Prep.
  • Has a high capacity for problem solving, logistics, and coordinating details in a fast-paced environment. This is an administrative position that directly supports each STRIVE Prep campus.
  • Has an entrepreneurial mindset and ability to design and implement ELD programming from scratch.
  • Speaks Spanish fluently

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Programming
  • Facilitate and participate in network-level research and planning for future MLL-related school-based programs
  • Research and support the implementation of best practices to accelerate the language acquisition of newcomer English language learners
  • Create and/or curate curricular resources to be used in English Language Development (ELD) classes across the network
  • Collaborate with AP of Student Support at schools to plan for and coordinate appropriate English Language Development (ELD) programming
  • Analyze data on a regular basis to evaluate the efficacy of MLL programming and supports throughout the network

Professional Development
  • Coordinate all ELA professional development for the network, ensuring effective execution of mandated trainings and evaluations at every school
  • Identify additional professional development needs and design targeted learning opportunities for schools based on need
  • Design and oversee professional development for admin and teachers on the ELD block prior to implementing programming

School Support
  • Collaborate with designated AP of Student Support at each school to support effective execution of:
  • CH-ISA team management
  • MLL identification and redesignation
  • Title III and ELPA budgets and spending plans
  • W-APT and ACCESS assessments
  • Monitor effectiveness of MLL support strategies and/or ELD programming and collaborate on action plans to prioritize next steps
  • Coach and support ELA admin with quality control of ELD block lesson plans and materials
  • Identify and share resources with school leadership to bolster MLL support at each school
  • Other ELL-related responsibilities
  • Design and lead relevant and comprehensive professional development and training programs in the summer and throughout the school year for teachers, school and network leaders
  • Provide regular supervision and support to each campus that is individualized and responsive to the needs of each campus and provider
  • Be part of PLCs as needed per school and central needs

Collaboration
  • Collaborate closely with the Directors of Student Services and curriculum Directors
  • Collaborate closely with a variety of stakeholders in the central office and on campuses to ensure the resources, talent, knowledge, and skills exist to support strong implementation of the ELS vision on campuses
  • Collaborate with community and district based stakeholders and partners to support a strong ELS vision and program across all of our campuses and ensure integration of best practices in the field
  • Provide quality consultation on student cases, district advocacy, and campus programming
