Global engagement is a fundamental aspect of the  university's mission. It involves and intersects with academic  units in providing education abroad, fostering international  research opportunities, developing strategic partnerships, and  providing critical international student and scholar services.  

The Vice Provost for Global Engagement, a Provost’s leadership  team member, will serve as the institution’s Senior International Officer. The Vice Provost will be responsible for developing campus-wide global engagement, expanding resources and  enhancing support structures to animate comprehensive  internationalization, and creating innovative opportunities and  programs for students and scholars internationally and on campus.  

The University seeks an innovative, entrepreneurial, and  transformative leader with an active Christian or Jewish faith who can plan and lead the next stage of the university's global engagement  with vision and passion. The Vice Provost will oversee the Office of  Global Engagement, including Study Abroad, the Office of  International Student and Scholar Services, Global Baylor, the  Global Scholars Program, and the Global Gateway Program. 

Strategic Planning

  • Integrate ambitions of the ACE internationalization plan into a  more comprehensive strategy for global engagement.
  •  Provide strategic direction and active stewardship in  developing local, state, national, and international partnerships.
  • Work towards boosting Baylor's international rankings.
  • Align the comprehensive approach to global engagement with  the R1, Christian mission of the university.

Leadership & Management

  • Oversee the Center for Global Engagement, supervising staff, managing budgets, and developing resources to fulfill strategic  plan goals.  
  • Identify the necessary human and financial resources to achieve  comprehensive internationalization goals with special emphasis  on faculty-led programming.  
  • In collaboration with the Development Office, strengthen  existing development revenue sources and aggressively seek to  identify and foster new sources of commitment to global  engagement.  
  • Develop robust assessment programs and processes to inform  and enhance strategic international education decision-making.
  • Develop and strengthen communication by mapping global assets and data, demonstrating the breadth and depth of the  university’s global engagement.  
  • Work collaboratively and be a resource to all stakeholders across  campus, including, for example, the Division of Student Life.
  • Share responsibility for monitoring duty of care, risk and crisis management protocols, and safety and security conditions  affecting international travel of Baylor personnel or students. 

International Students & Scholars 

  • Collaborate with the Graduate School to significantly increase  the number of international graduate students from a diverse array of countries. 
  • Provide direction and support for international enrollment  management processes, including international recruitment, retention and success. 
  • Provide oversight and leadership for attracting international  scholars that align with the R1 research designation.
  • Education Abroad
  • Enhance collaboration and coordination of Student Life’s  International University Mission and Service experiences with  academic units. 
  • Engage actively with faculty from a diverse set of academic  units at the university as well as with external global partners, networks, and professional associations.

International Partnerships

  •  Develop a portfolio of international partnerships that reflect the  scholarly and research mission of the university and further the  aspirations and goals of Illuminate, Baylor’s Strategic Plan. 
  • Create interdisciplinary regional faculty and scholar affinity  groups to inform partnership development, including new institutional relationships in Latin America and along the  border.
  • Develop international research opportunities supporting faculty teaching, research, and service. 

Campus Internalization: Baylor Global Learning for All 

  • Work closely with Academic Affairs and individual academic units to ensure that global perspectives  are infused throughout the curriculum, specifically employing Collaborative Online International  Learning (COIL) practices. 
  • Develop platforms whereby international projects can be more readily integrated into the classroom.
  • Enhance and strengthen Baylor’s Quality Enhancement Plan, “Global Baylor: Addressing Challenges to  Human Flourishing,” through the enhancement of intercultural competence among Baylor students. 
  • Develop on campus co-curricular programming that promotes a global mindset. 
  • Integrate international mission experiences for students into the curriculum. 
  • Collaborate with schools and colleges across the university to deepen and expand global engagement. 

Qualifications Required

  • As Baylor is committed to its Christian mission, the Vice Provost  for Global Engagement must be a person of active Christian or Jewish faith.
  • Ph.D. or terminal degree. 
  • Ten or more years of significant higher education experience  and progressive leadership responsibilities in universities. 
  • Significant engagement with and contributions to an  institution’s leadership team. 
  • Demonstrated success supervising professional staff and collaborating with faculty to advance institutional strategic goals. 
  • Entrepreneurial mindset. 
  • Budgetary acumen and sound fiscal management experience. 
  • Fundraising and stewardship experience. 
  • Strong cultural diplomacy and literacy skills. 
  • Effective interpersonal skills and collegiality with faculty from a diversity of disciplinary backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence, diversity, equity, and inclusion. 
  • Ability to travel internationally to engage partners, donors, alumni, students, and programming globally. 

Preferred 

  • Experience supporting staff and faculty to promote cultural exchange, fostering continuous improvement. 
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ten or more years of significant higher education experience and experience in international education as well as leadership  responsibilities in universities. 
  • Experience motivating staff and fostering collaboration across diverse internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Skill in providing a foundation for successful,  high-integrity relationships and partnerships. 
  • Experience working with diverse international higher education institutions.
  • Proficiency in at least one language in addition to English.
