The Director of Education Abroad and Global Learning is responsible for the creation, delivery and evaluation of high-impact programs and services that provide the campus community with access to opportunities to learn and engage in intercultural, international and global settings.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Lead and direct one or more functional units, including supervising staff, planning activities that support departmental and institutional goals, enforcing policies and procedures, managing technology and operations.
  • Oversee education abroad services for students, faculty and staff with the goal of increasing access and enhancing experiences through advising and counseling, collaboration with academic and administrative units, program assessment and analysis and strategic external partnerships.
  • Oversee coordination and execution of faculty-directed international programs in accordance with university policies and procedures; this includes generating interest through outreach to individual faculty and academic departments, developing programs in collaboration with faculty, overseeing program budgets, liaising with relevant UMBC committees and external partners, executing program applications, selecting participants, preparing faculty directors and evaluating programs.
  • Oversee international credit evaluation process for education abroad. This includes assisting students to obtain credit approvals prior to travel as well as evaluating international transcripts and submitting documentation to the UMBC Registrar to effectively transfer international credits to students' academic records.
  • Maintain technical knowledge of financial aid regulations as they pertain to education abroad and establish and manage study abroad scholarship programs. Educate the campus on additional funding opportunities such as Fulbright, Gilman, Boren, CLS and other competitive scholarship programs.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of international travel and entry requirements (e.g. passports, visas and stay permits).
  • Assist the Associate Vice Provost in coordinating UMBC’s international travel security program by establishing policies, serving as responder in case of emergencies and liaising with on-campus and external partners to develop and initiate emergency response protocols.
  • Assist the Associate Vice Provost with special projects, strategic initiatives and reporting.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree
  • Five years of related work experience required
  • Ability to travel within the United States and abroad
