Position Overview:  The New York School of Interior Design, an accredited, independent institution of higher education devoted entirely to the discipline of interior design and its related professions, seeks an individual to serve as International Student Services Specialist.  Reporting to the Dean of Students the International Student Services Specialist oversees and implements all aspects of international student services including development of policy and procedure, reporting and statistical analysis of international students.  Working closely with all NYSID departments the Specialist will advise and assist in the development of programming for international students.  The Specialist will assess and evaluate policies and procedures to assure compliance to federal and state offices including ICE/Department of Homeland Security, SEVP and SEVIS.  The Specialist will guide, counsel, develop and implement support services and manage all regulatory processing and tracking for international students.  Additionally, working closely with Admissions, he/she will contribute to the development and implementation of the recruitment strategy and actively assist in admissions and recruitment efforts.     

 Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as responsible officer for student and exchange visitors working in conjunction with US Government, Department of State and ICE/Department of Homeland Security
  • Oversee renewal/recertification applications and requirements for all approved visa status (currently every two years for all visa statuses) through ICE/Department of Homeland Security, SEVP, SEVIS or any other regulatory office
  • Remain current on all federal and state regulations pertaining to international students
  • Train alternate responsible officer
  • Create all NYSID policy and procedure for processing, implementing and reporting requirements for US Department of Homeland Security
  • Manage, oversee all regulatory records, applications, processing and tracking of international student attendance records
  • Create all website and publication(s) content for international students and scholars and continue to maintain and edit/revise content based on policy changes
  • Oversee NYSID compliance for federal and state regulations for international student
  • Plan, provide requested documentation and host all review meetings with SEVP Field Representatives
  • Establish relationships with outside organizations to support cultural exchange programming
  • Enhance and expand international student programming
  • Plan and host international student orientations
  • Guide, counsel, develop and implement support services for all international students
  • Evaluate, determine eligibility and report academic training (work authorization-all categories) for all international students
  • Report and track students authorized for work after completion of study
  • Participate in admissions and recruitment activities such as but not limited to Open House, college fairs, outreach (possible travel) 
  • Develop and implement a “current” international student ambassador plan to support admissions and recruitment efforts
  • Work with Development Office/Alumni Relations to develop and implement an International Alumni ambassador plan to support admissions and recruitment
  • Working with the Director of Admissions, establish, implement and oversee annual plan for ambassador programs
  • Lead campus tours, as needed
  • Assist in day-to-day functions of the office
  • Serve on special committees, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent experience in International Student Services or Admissions office.  Minimum of 2 years of working experience with International Students and a minimum of 1 year experience developing & delivering programs for International based students.  Must demonstrate ability to deliver excellent customer service.
