Job Summary
Scottsdale Community College is currently looking for a Student Services Specialist in the Veteran Services Office.This position will serve as a secondary VA School Certifying Official. This position assists faculty and professional staff and teams with the planning, processing and coordination of educational opportunities. The Student Services Specialist provides student service program support, advisement and information resource referrals.

To best serve the students, department, and college, this position requires a physical presence on campus, with the possibility of partial remote work depending on business needs.

Essential Functions
35% - Directly assists student veteran and dependent students through activities such as advising and counseling on educational benefit programs, discussing key aspects of the enrollment services process, researches and troubleshoots issues that prohibit or affect enrollment certification, and serves a point of contact for colleagues in other departments, and for federal and state regulatory agencies

20% - Certifies VA educational benefits in the role of School Certifying Official (SCO); acts as point of contact for VA regulations, monitoring student enrollments to include enrollment changes, repeat course requests, academic probation, and reporting of graduation

15% - Reviews Request for Benefits forms, to include reviewing course applicability, transcript evaluation, and posting of transferred credits

10% - Prepares files for auditing by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the State Approving Agency, and the Department of Defense

10% - Coordinates events and activities to support veteran students

10% - Coordinates and directs Veterans Services VA Work Study work flow, training, and daily responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications
Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution, and one (1) year of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.

OR

High School Diploma/GED and three (3) years of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs

Desired Qualifications
A. Associate's degree or higher.

B. Experience as a School Certifying Official (SCO).

C. Experience working in academic advisement.

D. One (1) or more years' extensive customer service experience in an enrollment services area working with a diverse population.

E. Experience with effective communication, verbal and written, and interpersonal skills sufficient to exchange and convey information to others. Written communication skills will be assessed through application materials.

F. Experience using computer systems effectively including, but not limited to, student information systems, VAOnce, online databases, email, Google Drive, and Microsoft Office software.
