Job Summary
The Student Services Specialist will provide processing/frontline administrative support to the Financial Aid Department.

Performing technical and demanding financial aid duties, this position will analyze and process data to determine financial aid eligibility. Additional duties include determining award amounts, making awards, and administering specific financial aid programs. This position will assist students with the completion of financial aid and scholarship materials. This position may involve resolving escalated financial aid issues and concerns. As a liaison between campus departments and external agencies, this position may also conduct financial aid and scholarships presentations on and off campus.

Essential Functions
  • 60% -Provide accurate and consistent customer service to students and parents regarding financial aid programs and related services on the frontline. Analyze/interpret regulations and respond to inquiries requiring detailed knowledge of regulations and policies. Ensure compliance with all financial aid policies, and adhere to a superior level of customer service. Assists with identifying resources needed to address students' circumstances and potential barriers. Assists with student persistence and completion efforts of partnered Student Services team(s)
  • 30% Assists students with the financial aid process from initial application to award. Performs regular follow-up, via email and phone calls to ensure students understand the financial aid process and assists with verifying applications for accuracy and completeness. Represent the college at special events, such as financial aid workshops, orientations, and other on campus programs.
  • 10% - Reviews and performs technically complex Title IV processes including review of financial aid applications, packaging student financial aid inclusive of; verification, budget proration, awarding,

Minimum Qualifications
Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in business administration, education or directly related field, and one year of experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development

OR

High School Diploma or GED and three years of directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications
A. One (1) or more years of experience working in a higher educational environment with a role in Enrollment Services (Financial Aid, Admissions and Records, Advisement, Student Business Services)

B. One (1) or more years' experience utilizing internal/external databases such as PeopleSoft (SIS) or any other financial management system

C. One (1) or more years' experience interpreting and following regulatory policies in day to day work

D. One (1) or more years' customer service experience with a high degree of public contact and working with a culturally diverse student population

E. Experience using online or web-based technology in delivery of programs and services

F. Demonstrated ability to work quickly and accurately on detailed records

G. Experience establishing relationships and working collaboratively with other departments

Special Working Conditions
  • Applicants must be in good standing with all U.S. Department of Education Federal Student Aid programs and eligible to access federal websites required to perform job duties.

  • Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at the candidate's own expense

  • May require numerous evenings or weekends
