Position SummarySDSU Imperial Valley is a campus/college of San Diego State University serving the desert area of southeastern California. It is accredited as an integral unit of SDSU and operates under the same governance structure and university policies. Established in 1959 by an act of the State Legislature, SDSU IV offers its programs at two locations in Imperial County: Calexico and Brawley. Offering four- year and two-year undergraduate degrees, graduate degrees, and post-baccalaureate credential programs, SDSU Imperial Valley helps matriculated students achieve their higher education goals. Currently, SDSU IV employs 61 full-time faculty and staff members.The SDSU Imperial Valley Student Affairs unit, working in conjunction with the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity at the San Diego campus, are mutually responsible for the coordination and development of student services and building the inclusive excellence of SDSU’s staff and faculty. Areas of services include, but are not limited to, Career Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, Educational Opportunity Programs, Financial Aid and Scholarships, Veterans Services, Student Ability Success Center, Student Health Services, Student Life and Leadership, Student Rights and Responsibilities, Testing Services, and Supporting the Associated Students.Under the direction of the Dean for SDSU Imperial Valley, the Dean of Students is the lead administrator for the Student Affairs unit.The SDSU Imperial Valley Career & Veterans Service Coordinator provides a vital function for student success by ensuring students and alumni at the University receive well- researched, comprehensive advising and programming that contributes to career development, career path planning and positive career outcomes. This position meets these needs by fulfilling the following areas of responsibility:

This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. This position is physically located at the SDSU Imperial Valley Campus in Calexico.Education and ExperienceEducation:Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.Experience:Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, higher education, student affairs or job-related field.Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with faculty and employers to support outreach, compliance and programming related to internships, mentorships, and other structured student learning experiences.Direct experience in researching/managing solutions to address the challenges of engaging under-represented college student populations in career or student development.Experience developing and delivering high quality presentations, workshops, and other career focused programming.Demonstrated ability to provide career development-focused advising to students in higher education, and alumni of higher education institutions.Professional experience working within the business field in either higher education, or in related industries.Specialized Skills
Bilingual: English-SpanishExperience using Microsoft Office applications and Google applicationsMust have the ability to display and maintain positive customer service orientation and strong interpersonal communication skillsExperience communicating effectively and professionally with diverse and changing audiences in person, and via web, print, and other media.Strong presentation skills.Working knowledge of career development and employment practices, trends and challenges.Licenses and/or Certifications Required
Valid California Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire.Compensation and BenefitsStarting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,691 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources. SDSU Vaccine PolicyIn accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. An individual is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose of a two-shot vaccine or two weeks after the first dose of a single-shot vaccine. Afterward a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated.The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university’s secure online health portal prior to beginning work.
