Job Title: Student Affairs Coordinator Reports To: Headmaster and Assistant Headmasters Location: John D. O'Bryant School of Mathematics and Science The John D. O'Bryant School of Mathematics and Science seeks to hire a Student Affairs Coordinator. The ideal candidate is an innovative, forward thinking, and committed professional who is interested in working in an exam school. The Student Affairs Coordinator is dedicated to educating every student utilizing available research-proven teaching, learning, and engagement programs, practices, and techniques. At the O'Bryant, we believe positive and affirming relationships are the basis for rigorous, high-quality instruction and overall school success. The Student Affairs Coordinator will perform tasks related to student conduct and progressive discipline as well as the planning, organizing, and oversight of extracurricular activities and programs for students. The Student Affairs Coordinator will ensure the safety and security of all students and staff by establishing and implementing an effective progressive discipline system and using protocols that are aligned with and reinforce the BPS Code of Conduct and O'Bryant's Core Values of Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Discipline, and Excellence. The Student Affairs Coordinator will work with other members of O'Bryant's support staff to establish a culture and climate where student voice and leadership are fostered, encouraged, and celebrated through participation in student clubs and programs as well as through regularly scheduled community-wide gatherings. The Student Affairs Coordinator understands O'Bryant's mission and exemplifies it in all aspects of performance and programming. Responsibilities include: Attend all professional development sessions after the building is clear. Investigate and provide remediation in situations involving conflict between students and teachers/staff members and among students. Develop, implement, and manage a robust progressive discipline system based on Restorative Justice practices and Crisis Prevention and Intervention principles. Respond to teacher requests for assistance, via the online BAG Referral Form and email, with repeated violations of BPS' COC and/or O'Bryant's Core Values and ensures teachers are informed about the outcomes of discipline issues. This must be done within 24 hours. Assist school administration with implementing school policies and procedures related to suspensions and other severe discipline consequences. Maintain accurate school discipline records for students on the Aspen Student Information System. Document ALL student meetings in the students' journal in the Aspen Student Information System and Panorama within 24 hours. Please note that these are legal documents. Hold detention for the assigned grade level. Clear the floor/building at the end of the day from 1:49 PM - 2:30 PM. Be present in the hall 10 minutes before and after each transition. Attend lunch duty. Coordinate special events (parent nights, school assemblies), managing invitations and responses. Perform other related responsibilities as requested by the Headmaster and assistant headmasters. Student Support Actively participate on the student support team to connect students, who are struggling academically, socially, or emotionally, with early intervention strategies. Closely monitor attendance data and develop action plans with students and families. Hold weekly attendance meetings with data reports and follow-up logs with other student affairs coordinators, registrar, and your grade level administrator. Maintain a high profile at student programs and athletic events and participate in school-wide evening events such as open houses, student performances, and multicultural celebrations as requested. Student Voice and Leadership Support the coordination of Student Government elections and ensure consistent meetings are in place to work with student leaders, teachers, and other staff members to plan, organize, promote, execute, supervise and evaluate student engagement programs, events, and activities that meet the needs and interests of students at the O'Bryant. Coordinate grade level assemblies with student government and the admin team. Communication Serve as a liaison to the community, staff, and parents on school-related matters. Ensure that the school's appearance is well-maintained and that its spaces are welcoming to students, teachers, staff, families, and guests. Assist with all mailings and distribution of information to students, families, and community partners. Required Qualifications: A. Bachelor's Degree or training, experiences, and skills related to job responsibilities. B. At least one year of experience working with young people in an urban setting. C. Ability to listen and understand student concerns. D. Excellent interpersonal skills. E. Excellent organizational skills. F. Excellent written and oral communication skills. G. Ability to manage multiple tasks. H. Familiarity with using Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Google Apps. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree B. 3 years of experience working with urban youth C. Proven managerial expertise in an urban school setting D. 1 - 3 years of experience as a mediator resolving conflicts E. 1 - 3 years of behavioral management experience F. 1 - 3 years of experience working with the BPS Code of Conduct G. Training in Peer Mediation and Restorative Justice Practices H. Ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish/Haitian Creole TERMS: Managerial Tier B Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment. Salaries are listed by Unions and Grade/Step. NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or headmaster of the school. School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
