Job Summary

The Manager of Global Partnerships serves as the primary point of contact for global partnerships and is an integral part of the UMass Amherst International Programs Office (IPO) senior staff team. The Manager is a key player for shaping and supporting UMass Amherst’s global partnership strategy, facilitating international agreements, collaborating across units to develop innovative international partnership models, and managing the strategic collection and communication of data in support of the University’s global relationships and reputation.

 

Essential Functions

  • Maintains international partnership agreements and manages the global partnership database, including the assessment of partner activity.
  • Collects and harmonizes data from various on- and off-campus sources to index the University’s performance on global engagement activities and metrics and suggests process improvements to enhance data culture at IPO.
  • Reviews proposed new and renewing international engagements to ensure their effectiveness, alignment, and long-term viability.
  • Supports strategic collaboration with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Engagement, including collecting data related to international research activity and assessing effectiveness of strategic initiatives.
  • Shapes the development of data-driven, strategic campus-wide initiatives for international collaboration; designs and supports programs for faculty engagement with international initiatives.
  • Works collaboratively with academic and administrative units at the University and counterparts internationally to advance the University’s global partnerships and learning goals.
  • Creates and disseminates periodic reports highlighting the University’s global engagement.
  • Works collaboratively to organize high-level visits from international partners and delegations.
  • Designs and manages other global engagement programs consistent with UMass Amherst’s position as a leading global university and actively seeks grant and/or foundation funds to support such programs.
  • Represents IPO and the Vice Provost in meetings and delegations locally, nationally, and internationally as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Four (4) years’ experience working in higher education, diplomacy, international development, data analytics, NGOs, or related field.
  • Ability and aptitude to work both in teams and independently, with demonstrated experience showing initiative to develop programs proactively and make decisions.
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, including familiarity with a wide variety of document and report forms.
  • Strong familiarity with computer systems for recording, analyzing, and communicating data (Excel, Tableau, PowerPoint, GitHub, etc.).
  • Familiarity with large and complex organizational structures such as a research-intensive university.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams with strong attention to detail and follow-up.

 

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • PhD/JD.
  • Experience of living or working internationally.
  • Proficiency in a language other than English.
  • Superior analytical and research skills, including experience of working with qualitative and quantitative data, designing assessment programs, or working with statistical computing packages (R, Python, GitHub, etc.).
  • Knowledge of international trends and environment pertaining to global higher education cooperation.
  • Familiarity with international university and educational systems.

 

Work Schedule

  • Monday - Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.
  • Required to work occasional evenings and weekends during the year.
