Primary Purpose:

Oversee district efforts in the operation of Gillespie County High School (GCHS) and Alternative Education Program (AEP). Assist with discipline management, student attendance, At-Risk and transfer process. Facilitator of hearing and resolving student and parent complaints. Serve as the district coordinator to oversee the health, wellbeing and safety of our students. Serve as the facilitator of board policies.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Valid Texas Principal certification or equivalent

T-Tess Certification

Texas Teacher Certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies related to student discipline and attendance

Knowledge of positive discipline support programs

Ability to disseminate information to individuals and groups

Ability to interpret policies, procedures, and laws

Ability to deliver effective training to a variety of audiences

Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Ability to mediate, problem solve, and resolve conflict

Experience:

5 years educator administrator experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Management
  • Oversee the development of the GCHS and alternative education programs.
  • Assist GCHS as well as alternative education staff in improving instructional strategies and assessment techniques.
  • Assist with federal, state, and local testing activities pertaining to GCHS and the alternative education program students.
  • Serve as in instructional liaison between all alternative education programs, and campus and central administration.
  • Ensure instructional effectiveness accountability in both GCHS and the alternative education programs.

  • School/Organizational Improvement
  • Meet with the campus counselors to ensure the students' needs are being met.
  • Participate in the district and campus level decision making process to establish and review the District's alternative education program goals and objectives.

  • Student Discipline Management

  • Manage the district's admissions, transfer, discipline, and residency process for GCHS.
  • Coordinate the districtwide anti-bullying and character education programs.
  • Interpret the Student Code of Conduct and issue appropriate consequences.
  • Assist campus administrators with fair and consistent administration of discipline policies and discretionary disciplinary alternative education program (DAEP) placements.
  • Monitor discipline trends and work with campus administrators to develop campus discipline improvement plans to address student needs in the areas of attendance and discipline.
  • Address parent concerns related to discipline and campus administrative decisions.
  • Conduct thorough, impartial investigations.
  • Develop and present training to campus administrators regarding student discipline and Texas Education Code Chapter 37.

  • Community Relations

  • Develop and maintain programs that work to strengthen home/school connections.
  • Work with community agencies to support positive behavioral choices for students and positive consequences.
  • Support parent referrals to outside agencies for assistance.
  • Facilitate SHAC committee meetings and follow up with administration regarding any updates and concerns.

  • Student Attendance

  • Supervise district staff while assisting with concerns in attendance and dropout trends with students.
  • Ensure timely notification to parents regarding concerns with student attendance.
  • Support campus administrators and parents in following truancy laws.

  • Personnel Management

  • Select, train, evaluate, and supervise staff and make recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.

  • Policy/Procedures and Reports
  • Ensure the district Public Health Protocols are being followed and reported as necessary.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.

  • Administration

  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including auditable accounting records as well as all Public Information Requests.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Supervise, evaluate, and recommend the hiring and firing of district nurses, social worker(s), truancy officer(s), Outreach Liaison and assigned stafMental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

    Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

    Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting

    Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse

    Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds)

    Environment: Occasional districtwide and statewide travel

    Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

    Work days: 210
    FISD pays $285 a month towards TRS Health Insurance
