Responsibilities

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Transfer Admissions, the Assistant Director, creates and implements strategy focused on the recruitment and enrollment of F-1 International Students at the First Year andTransfer level to increase global diversity in accordance with the College Strategic Plan; to help encourage alumni to assist with recruitment efforts; to assist in the overall international and domestic recruitment and admission goals of the College.
  • Recruitment and Outreach

  • Execute office-wide recruitment efforts to assigned geographic territories.

    Represent the College at college fairs, transfer fairs, community colleges,

    community-based organizations, and high schools; and language center visits

    both internationally and domestically. This includes scheduling, confirming,

    notifying prospective students at each high school of the visit, and visiting 4-5

    schools per day throughout the fall recruitment period of September-November,

    and the Spring recruitment period of February-April. Contribute to the creation of

    promotional materials specifically written for the international student audience

    and guidance counselors abroad; plan and coordinate meetings with students,

    counselors, and families both abroad and domestically, also advise about

    admission, travel, visa, the US, and other general inquiry issues; develop and

    maintain email correspondence with prospective international applicants and

    accepted students throughout the year; correspond with students, teachers,

    counselors, families to initiate contact or maintain established contact; maintain

    international web page and request updates and revisions as needed. Participate

    in the visitor experience by conducting information sessions, interviews, admit

    on-the-spot appointments, meet & greet appointments, transcript evaluations,

    special group presentations, and 'Counselor of the Day' activities including assigned Saturday duty; maintain continuous contact with prospective students

    via e-mail, phone, and office visits.

    Respond to all phone calls and emails within 1-2 Business days.

    Identify and submit proposals to host international high school and regionally

    located counselors and country advisors for training on SMC campus; provide

    organizational assistance with on-campus visit days; actively contact domestic

    students via phone, email, and text for recruitment and yield activity.
  • Customer Service and Relations:

  • Meet and greet campus visitors; host and attend virtual recruitment programs;

    individually meet with parents and students, provide guidance on admission

    procedures and advising them on SMC programs; assist parents, counselors, and

    students to understand the SMC admission process, cost and aid, housing

    options, campus life, etc; answer all emails promptly including web links

    providing detailed information; entertain international visitors; actively work with

    Residence Life, Business Office, Registrar's Office, Center for International

    Programs, Athletics and others to meet students needs; evaluate foreign

    academic credentials for academic departments, collaborate with coaches in

    evaluating student documents as required by NCAA; communicate with

    EducationUSA advisors and high school counselors 1-4 times a year on SMC

    events, and reporting on academic updates; keep up-to-date on changes and

    trends in education systems around the world; maintain resource library;

    participate in Center for International Program Study Abroad application review;

    support other campus departments as needed; remain active in NAFSA

    (International Educators), OACAC (Overseas Association of College Admission

    Counselors) by attending conferences, preparing research and conducting

    presentations.
  • Territory and Application management:

  • Read and evaluate admissions applications for international and domestic

    assigned territories. Assist in holistic application review; assist in follow-up for

    application completion; recommend admission decision to the Dean of

    Admissions.

    Create, maintain, and implement strategic plan for international recruitment and

    admission in accordance with institutional goals as well as selected domestic

    travel territories; ongoing assessment of strategies in plan; extensive decision

    making on travel destinations, school visit selection, obtain information on

    changing education systems world-wide as well as geopolitical/economical

    situations. Analysis of data collected on prospective students, applicants, and

    admitted and enrolled students to determine effectiveness of strategy and tactics

    and make necessary adjustments.

    Advise via email students, parents, counselors, and educational advisors. In

    collaboration with the VP of Enrollment Management and Dean of Admissions,

    establish contractual agreements with reputable overseas agents to recruit

    students on behalf of Saint Mary's College and provide necessary training to

    international alumni to assist with recruitment efforts (assistance with on and off

    campus programming; correspondence with prospective applicants and accepted

    students; development of calling and email campaigns; training to assist in

    conducting interviews off campus; assistance with college fair representation);

    collaborate with EducationUSA Offices overseas to host events for high school

    counselors; admission file review, decision processing and management of

    case-load. Create data reports for supervisors and others on the admission funnel

    (prospective - applicant - accepted - enrolled - not coming); compile analyses on

    data, student trends, travel destinations, projections, and other items as

    requested by supervisors and others;
  • Alumni Volunteer Program: Coordinate with Alumni Office to re-establish AVP

  • (Alumni Volunteer Program); create recruitment and training plan to engage

    alumni to help recruit prospective students domestically and internationally.
  • Student Yield: Ongoing review of files throughout the year to determine the

  • status of students (checking for missing documents, emailing students to get

    documents, checking with them on their enrollment decisions, etc); contact

    students and counselors after acceptance to encourage them to enroll; deliver

    incoming student gift (ex T-shirt) to students when "in-country". Maintain

    responsive communication protocols including prompt response to inquiries;

    participate in planning and implementation of student yield events on campus.

    Responsible for hundreds of student contacts during Tele counseling (phone

    banking )to convert students to next levels of the admissions funnel, including

    communications to inquiries, applicants, admitted students, and deposited

    students; work with Center for International Programs to ensure students have

    the information they need to arrive on campus; execute decisions and plans as

    needed.
  • Tasks Specific to International Admissions: Vigilant training on SEVIS and other

  • governmental mandates; collaboration with Center for International Programs;

    knowledge of changing world environment; research pre-travel on the stability of

    area, visa requirements, health issues, climate, local customs, etc.; ability to read

    languages other than English is beneficial for document evaluation; understand

    and acknowledge TOEFL/IELTS/Cambridge/Duolingo testing systems,

    comprehension of IB curriculum and world education systems (TOEFL = Test of

    English as a Foreign Language; IELTS = International English Language Testing

    System; IB= International Baccalaureate). Provide training for office staff and

    student workers on nuances of international admission process; advise junior

    staff members on College and office policy; review and research updates on

    SEVIS, Department of Homeland Security, Travel Warnings, and changing world

    situations;
  • Other Duties as Assigned Organizing and managing East Bay College

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education: REQUIRED: BA PREFERRED: BA

    Experience: (years required and applicable field of experience): minimum 2 years in international admissions, and recruitment at an institution of higher education; expertise in undergraduate student recruitment required; experience in evaluating secondary and post-secondary credentials from foreign institutions is highly desirable; working experience with international agents is preferred; knowledge of SEVIS desired.

    Skills/Abilities: (e.g. computer skills, written & verbal skills, trades, laws, procedures, technical)

    Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, goal oriented and ability to manage multiple priorities in a demanding environment; cultural awareness and sensitivity; working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites; ability to read text in a language other than English desirable; be team oriented, possess a high level of initiative and willingness to contribute to entire recruitment effort; ability to communicate unique mission of Lasallian, Liberal Arts, CatholicCollege.
