*Summary of Position:*
The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences seeks an energetic and innovative Assistant Dean for Student Affairs. Founded in 1855 by abolitionists on the principles of diversity, equality, and inclusion, Butler admitted women and people of color on an equal basis with white males, a radical stance for the time. The Assistant Dean will continue this strong legacy of inclusion and provide vision, leadership, and management of the student success and support efforts of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
The Assistant Dean is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and administrative oversight for college-wide matters related to student affairs. This is a fulltime, 12-month administrative staff position in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences overseeing the Office of Student Success. This position reports directly to the Dean of the College and is a member of the College Leadership Team. The Assistant Dean collaborates with faculty, staff, and other members of the university to recruit, admit, and retain a highly qualified and diverse student population. We seek candidates with the ability to work with a diverse group of students in support of their success and well-being, possess an understanding of the health professions, and a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion.

*Key Responsibilities:*
Recruitment and Admission

* Collaborate with and serve as a liaison to University Admission staff to coordinate recruitment activities and prospective undergraduate student visits for the College and other admission events
* Create and update informational materials in admission and consistent with COPHS policies
* Oversee staff providing support to pharmacy and PA admission processes
Student Services

* Provide guidance and advice to COPHS student organizations, class officers.
* Serve as an information and administrative resource for students on matters related to personal, behavioral, and/or conduct issues.
* Provide onboarding support in areas related to student affairs (e.g., financial aid, campus resources) to students transferring into or exiting academic programs within COPHS
Liaison Connections

* Serve as a liaison to Career and Professional Success office for student career counseling and job placement events/activities
* Serve as a liaison to Learning Resource Center and as a member of the University C.A.R.E. Team for student study tables and tutoring, ADA issues, and other areas as appropriate for academic, personal, or behavior issues
* Serve as a liaison to the Center for Academic Success and Exploration to identify and direct students needing academic support and discernment
* Provide support and information to University Advancement in matters related to professional partners and endowed scholarships
College Events

* Provide oversight for college events
* Major events include: White Coat, Honor Day, Hooding
* Coordinate the role of faculty in college events
* Identify (in consultation with the Dean) speakers for White Coat and Honor Day
* Review scripts and programs for events
* Identify student award recipients for Honor Day
* Coordinate Student Orientation and Welcome Week activities with academic program directors
* Oversee college scholarship process and selection
Policy and Leadership

* Work with the Associate Dean for Academic and Administrative Services to ensure compliance with accreditation standards related to student affairs
* Serve as a resource to faculty on college policies and practices related to student affairs
* Provide updates to policies and college information related to student affairs for inclusion in the Student Handbook, COPHS Community Resources or other repositories
* Participate as an active member of the College Leadership Team
* Supervise and evaluate the activities and performance of assigned support staff
* Contribute to assessment and planning activities/events related to admission and student affairs.
* Represent the college on other university event committees (welcome week, first year student orientation, professional orientations, Homecoming, Parents weekend, commencement). Coordinate with chairs to solicit faculty participation when requested
The Assistant Dean for Student Affairs must be able to work with other college administrators to coordinate resources and expertise needed to deliver efficient services. Specifically, collaborate with

* Associate Dean for Academic and Administrative Services in areas related to student academic progression. The Assistant Dean provides guidance to students experiencing academic and professional standards issues. The Associate Dean ensures the processes associated with these issues proceed in a fair and equitable manner.
* Associate Dean for Academic and Administrative Services in areas related to changes to Handbooks and policies. Each is to consult with and notify each other of any changes to the policies.
* Director of Assessment in areas related to assessment of student success. The Assistant Dean works with the Director of Assessment to identify metrics to assess student success and ensure compliance with accreditation standards related to student affairs.
* Director of Advising in areas related to creating development programs to update faculty advising skills
* Academic program directors and program admission committees in areas related to professional and graduate programs’ admission policies and procedures. The Assistant Dean may provide input in these areas and is responsible for implementing processes to achieve enrollment goals consistent with admission policies. The Program Director provides direction and leadership on admission criteria and target enrollments. The professional and graduate programs’ Admissions Committees are responsible for vetting and approving any directives or changes to admission standards and target enrollments and admission decisions.
* Academic program directors and program curriculum committees in areas related to co-curricular activities. The Assistant Dean may provide input in these areas and is tasked with implementing and overseeing activities to achieve the desired goals.
* Department chairs in identifying faculty expertise and the workload assignments associated with recruitment and co-curricular activities. The Assistant Dean communicates to the chairs the needs in these areas and the chairs determine assignments.

*Other desired qualities*
Strong communication skills, the ability to work with a diverse group of students, and to effectively represent the college to external and internal constituents. Demonstrate understanding of the health professions, ethical and professional behavior, and possess leadership and management skills sufficient to manage and lead the Office of Student Affairs including maintaining confidentiality with student personal matters and mentoring direct reports.

*Required Qualifications include:*

* Completion of a master’s degree in higher education administration, counseling, or related field or a degree in a health-related field with student affairs experience
* Minimum 5 years of work experience in student affairs with previous professional staff supervisory experience;
* Knowledge of and experience with admission software, advising software, student developmental theory, retention strategies, disability resources, international students, and familiarization with adult and online learners;
* Experience providing student-centered vision and leadership within a higher education setting;
* Knowledge of strategic, future-focused planning and research needed to support student services for a variety of types of learners;
* Capability to drive innovation and excellence within the area of student services as well as review and create policies and procedures regardless of modality;
* Familiarization of legal mandates that impact disability services as well as working knowledge of available assistive technology;
* Capacity to interact effectively with various internal and external constituencies;
* Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret data as well as creatively solve problems;
* A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and a professional understanding of the intersectionality of identities; and
* Strong communication, administrative, presentation, and organizational skills.
*Preferred Qualifications include:*

* 5+ years of progressive experience in academic support, advising, or student support services
* Leadership experience at director level or higher in academic support, advising, or student support services
* In-depth knowledge of Navigate and PeopleSoft software
* Strong understanding around the post-secondary interpretation and application of legal mandates such as the ADA and Sec 504
* Demonstrated ability to increase outcomes for diverse student populations
