*Scope of Responsibilities*
Provide leadership and management to the Department of Student Involvement and Leadership. Provide oversight to advising, risk mitigation, event planning, and the execution of educational and training opportunities based on learning outcomes. Establish and maintain effective collaborative working relationships with student leaders, staff, academic affairs, campus partners, alumni and external constituencies. Embrace and support diversity as part of the educational process.
*Duties %*
Student Development and Advising

* Provide leadership for Student Involvement and Leadership staff including the oversight of advising strategies for all student organizations, Duke University Union, Class Councils and the Duke Student Government.
* Review and approve policies and procedures related student programming and event planning to ensure the safety and accountability of student organizations.
* Conduct annual program assessments to determine impact of student engagement opportunities.
* Serve as the main contact for fraternity and sorority national affiliations as well serving as oversight for recruitment, programming, conduct of Duke affiliated organizations.

Collaborative Curriculum Development

* Serve as the primary liaison with Housing and Residential Life and academic units for the development of strategic university initiatives and partnerships that enhance student learning and the overall quality of campus life, including QuadEX.
* Oversee the SIL Immersive Orientation programming, including the Clark Scholars.
* Serve on various university committees and collaborative projects.

High Impact Programming

* Provide guidance for Campus Life employees on matters related to safe event planning and the university policies and procedures relevant to their areas of responsibility.
* In partnership with the Dean of Students office, identify, advise and align Campus Life units with the desired goal of mitigating risk at student activities and events
* When appropriate, assist University units in risk identification and mitigation strategies for student activities programming.
* Communicate the protocols involved with the review and approval performance and service-related contracts.

Staff Supervision and Development

* Recruit, train, supervise, review performance, and create development plans for professional advising staff, administrative support staff, and student staff.
* Oversee the development of the fulltime staff, graduate students, undergraduate student staff that make up the Student Involvement and Leadership department.

Budget and Strategic Planning

* Development and management of the Student Involvement and Leadership operating budget as well as approval of the operating budgets for the Duke University Union and Duke Student Government.
* Manage the grant/foundation/endowment funds including, but not limited to, the oversight of the Penny Pilgram George Women’s’ Leadership Initiative.
* Assure compliance of assigned fiscal operations and performance contracts consistent with departmental and university policies and procedures.

Perform related duties as assigned or required to meet department, division and University goals and objectives.

*P**referred Qualifications*

* *Education:* Work requires communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a Master's degree in student personnel, student development, higher education or other relevant discipline.
* *Experience:* Five years of experience in student activities, college union or related area with progressive levels of responsibilities.
*Specific Skills and Competencies*

* Demonstrated leadership in student advocacy and constituent communities
* Assessment skills necessary to evaluate and improve programs and shape initiatives
* Fiscal management skills and knowledge of financial procedures common to student activities or college union settings
* Familiarity with university financial policies, procedures and systems
* Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills
* Excellent strategic and operational planning skills
* Proven ability to organize and manage multiple priorities and projects

Minimum Qualifications

EducationWork requires communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a Master's degree in student personnel, student development, higher education or other relevant discipline.

Experience
Five years of experience in student activities, college union or related OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE area with progressive levels of responsibilities.
