Job Responsibilities

York Technical College, a member of the South Carolina Technical and Comprehensive Education System, is a public, two-year institution of higher education that offers a variety of associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates. Through maximizing student success, the College seeks to contribute to the economic growth and development of York, Lancaster, and Chester counties and of the State.

The Admissions Counselor performs the following functions:
  • Monitors assigned territory to set and reach enrollment goals. Works with prospective students through every stage of the enrollment funnel utilizing student technology platforms: CRM - Ellucian Recruit and SIS-Ellucian Colleague. Works with the Enrollment Operations team to initiate student communications and touch points throughout the funnel with use of a set of prescribed communication workflows which includes emails, phone calls, and text messages. Works with various departments including financial aid, academic records and academic divisions to facilitate completion of student records for enrollment. Maintains conversion goals through specific phases of the funnel. Understands and manages enrollment data for the assigned admit types to reach new student enrollment goals. Maintains expectations for desired conversions and reports Applied to Accepted to Associate Dean of Admissions and Enrollment Management.
  • Understands the acceptance and placement processes by interpreting multiple measures of test scores to recommend appropriate beginning levels of general education coursework. Complete academic planning for the first start term using the Navigate student success platform. Reviews qualification requirements and procedures for students with limited enrollment and specialty programs. Maintains proficiency in admissions and advising policies and procedures per departmental requirements. Conducts and/or participates in cross-training to deliver and maintain knowledge and skills required to provide quality customer service to students. Maintains expectations for desired conversions and reports Accepted to Planned and Planned to Registered conversions to Associate Dean of Admissions and Enrollment Management.
  • Represents York Technical College within agencies, businesses, and industry as needed by creating and facilitating information sessions and other presentations for specific audiences. Responds to requests for representation in a timely manner; strives to increase awareness of opportunities for potential students of York Technical College programs; also, assists in representing the College at various educational and career opportunity programs.
  • Contributes to the retention and completion of students and performs other related duties as required. Participates in activities required by Enrollment Services or the College which relate to departmental/College goals or the College mission. Participates in the Institutional Effectiveness process. Participates actively in projects/activities related to the SACS Compliance Process and Quality Enhancement Plan.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling, or related field or a Bachelor's degree and at least two years of recent experience in College Admissions, Outreach, and Recruiting.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Ellucian Colleague, Recruit, and student recruitment strongly preferred.
  • Ability to assist students in providing college student enrollment services.
  • Tact, energy, flexibility and resourcefulness in dealing with a variety of student situations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and make effective recruitment presentations for prospective students, business and industry and the community, to students, counselors, and parents.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement activities and events to promote the College.
  • Ability to assist students in providing resources needed for successful onboarding.
