The Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (AME) Department in the USC Viterbi School of Engineering is seeking an outstanding candidate to join our student affairs team. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Student Affairs and works closely with our four-person advisement team, as well as the Department Chair, to serve approximately 1,000 Undergraduate, Master's, and Doctoral students in AME.
Academic Advisement:
- Advise students on academic requirements, transfer credit procedures, and graduation requirements.
- Evaluate complex problems - whether academic, administrative, or personal - and refer students to appropriate offices for assistance. Liaise with other offices on behalf of students to facilitate problem resolution.
- Maintain the USC Advisement Database and prepare reports for internal and external use, including the preparation of 3rd and 5th semester degree audits, graduation reporting, and NREG reporting.
- Provide holistic advisement and coordinate outreach efforts for students who are at-risk and on academic probation.
- Maintain AME student records and STARS reports.
- Coordinate applications to graduate, degree progress, enrollment, and degree verification.
- Advise students on Progressive Degree Program requirements and procedures.
- Coordinate mandatory advisement, long-term course plans, and registration activities.
- Assist students with paperwork and pre-approvals for Study Abroad applications.
- Attend and plan orientation related activities.
Program-Related Activities:
- Support the AME Ph.D. programs through coordinating Ph.D. admission and file review, issuing admission funding offers and coordinating Ph.D. events including the screening exam and preview day.
- Assist the Chair and Director with university and school wide reports and data collection.
- Prepare, submit, and monitor the submission of materials for curriculum proposals.
- Help coordinate the AME Schedule of Classes.
- Interface with faculty to exchange and update information on student academic progress, transfer work, substitutions and waivers or to enlist support of program services.
- Facilitate the submission of student petitions to various university departments.
- Attend and plan University, School and Department events, including admission events for prospective students and events for continuing students.
- Advise AME student groups.
- Support department in organization of materials for ABET Review process.
- Participate in committees at the department, school, college or university level.
- Assist in resolution of grade, change of grade, and registration processes.
- Provide customer service to students, staff and faculty who contact department.
- Work with faculty and staff on special projects as assigned and perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
