The City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy (SPH) is seeking a dynamic Senior Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs to serve as the School's Chief Academic Officer.

First accredited by the Council of Education in Public Health (CEPH) in 2011, the School is a leading public school of public health in the New York region. Its student-centered public health training programs include:

* Five Master of Public Health (MPH) degree programs in hybrid and online formats.

* Three online and one traditional Master of Science (M.S.) degree program.

* Three Ph.D. programs and two credit-bearing online advanced certificate programs.

Academic programs are organized into four departments: Community Health and Social Sciences; Environmental, Occupational and Geospatial Health Sciences; Epidemiology and Biostatistics; and Health Policy and Management. The School is home to seven thriving centers and institutes and is increasingly recognized as a hub for impactful, community-centered applied research and practice. Over 900 graduate students, 47 full-time faculties, 31 adjunct faculties, 62 full-time staff, and over 200 research staff are engaged in teaching and learning, applied research, administration, and community and professional service to advance population health.

In the U.S. News & World Report's national rankings for 2023, CUNY SPH has been rated the number one best public school of public health in New York State and is tied with Rutgers as the best school in the tri-state (N.Y., NJ, CT) region. Of the 195 public health schools and programs in the nation, the School ranked among the top 15 percent. At its 2021 Annual Meeting, the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) presented CUNY SPH with the Harrison C. Spencer Award for Outstanding Community Service. The prestigious award was created to honor Dr. Spencer, a pioneer in public health with a long-standing commitment to principles of social justice, focusing on community engagement to address the social determinants of health. The Spencer Award is given annually to an ASPPH-member, CEPH- accredited school or program of public health demonstrating a significant institutional commitment to addressing community needs through education, practice, and research.

CUNY SPH continues to evolve and respond to the changing face of public health, growing and modifying its programs to ensure graduates are optimally equipped to meet tomorrow's pressing public health challenges. In the past year the School's research portfolio has grown by 189 percent and shows no signs of slowing down. The School's collaborative approach reaches across academic departments and disciplines within CUNY SPH and throughout CUNY and extends to research, education, and practice with national and international schools of public health. CUNY SPH collaborates with community groups, NGOs, and other organizations to improve public health at home and abroad.

Reporting to the Dean, the PSch Senior Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs provides intellectual and administrative leadership for academic programs, including digital learning, student services, faculty affairs, assessment and accreditation activities, and international, national, and local academic collaborations.

Key responsibilities include:

* Strategically expanding academic programs and partnerships based on current and emerging educational and workforce local, national and international needs, such as through online and 4+1 programs and global partnerships; Playing a leadership role in advancing the School's strategic priorities and goals.

* Developing and overseeing multimodal learning, including the use of digital technologies.

* Leading initiatives to promote continuous faculty engagement and success in developing teaching innovations and pursuing meaningful, community-centered research and service opportunities.

* Managing the Office of Academic Affairs, including academic planning, course scheduling, enrollment management, academic support, doctoral student workshops, and online bookstore and library services.

* Overseeing the School's Human Research Protection Program.

* In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Alumni Relations, assuring high-quality, student-centered, comprehensive services, including academic advisement, academic support, enrollment and retention management and support, financial aid, career services, and supporting and expanding student and alumni resources and activities.

* Developing meaningful assessment methodologies to evaluate teaching, learning, course, and program effectiveness.

* Collaborating with department chairs and faculty to support and expand high-quality, cutting-edge online, hybrid, and traditional academic programs that adhere to accreditation standards.

* Seeking and pursuing external funding opportunities for educational scholarships and educational research programs.

* Leading the School's accreditation activities in collaboration with the Director of Academic Affairs.

* In partnership with the Assistant Dean of Marketing, Communications, and Online Learning, strategically grow and market the School's multimodal programs.

* Leading the development, implementation, analysis, and dissemination of integrated data systems to meet program, School, University, and accreditation needs and requirements.

* Assuming a leadership or ex-officio role in shared governance in various school committees.

* Assisting the Dean in other duties, as assigned.


* Until further notice, work will be performed in a hybrid manner with 70% onsite presence. All CUNY employees must reside with a commutable distance to the tri-state area.

* Candidates will be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of and authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates are required to be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.


This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Doctoral degree in public health or a related field.

* Demonstrated ethical leadership skills with a track record of successful academic and/or other relevant professional leadership experience in positions of increasing responsibility, with expertise in fiscal planning and resource allocation, strategic planning and execution, faculty, staff and organizational development, change management, and other administrative and academic functions related to higher education.

* A distinguished career that demonstrates passion and dedication to the pursuit of academic excellence and innovation and entrepreneurialism in teaching, scholarship, and community collaboration service, meriting appointment at the rank of professor in one of the school's academic departments.

* Commitment to the public higher education tenets of equity, diversity, multiculturalism, access, and excellence and to fostering an inclusive environment conducive to student, faculty, and staff success.

* Passionate about the CUNY SPH mission, core public health values, including a commitment to student-centered learning, community collaboration, health equity and public service.

* Strong academic experience with a demonstrated commitment to data-informed decision-making, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement, including a proven ability to track progress towards identified outcomes through quantitative and qualitative methods and use data to monitor and improve program offerings and operations.

* Excellent written, oral communication and conflict management skills with a leadership style that is collaborative, transparent, empowering, inclusive and a history of developing multiple teams of staff members

* The ability to work collaboratively and collegially with faculty, students, staff, and administrators, good problem-solving skills with a high level of personal and professional integrity within shared governance and collective bargaining environment.

* Strong organizational and follow-through skills to develop and execute work plans, lead large-scale initiatives, manage multiple complex assignments, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing situations and priorities.


Professional School Senior Associate Dean


Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Salary Range: $265,000 to $300,000 per annum.
