Job Description:

The Assistant Director of International Student Engagement is a critical member of the International Programs unit at Louisiana State University. LSU seeks to further expand institutional support for international undergraduate and graduate students represented in all colleges across the university. The Assistant Director will take the lead in providing support, community, and advocacy on behalf of  international students. The Assistant Director will work with academic colleges and departments in developing comprehensive programming aiming to better facilitate students’ academic and cultural experience at LSU. This position will execute international student orientation and collaborate with departments and colleges on campus to create additional engagement opportunities, and to enhance intercultural competency across the university. This position oversees the International Cultural Center and reports to the Senior Internationalization Officer and Executive Director of International Programs.

Job Responsibilities:

Leadership/Student Support: Establish student-centered programming and engagement in the ICC and across campus. In collaboration with the International Services Office, academic colleges and departments, fully execute a comprehensive international student orientation for both undergraduate and graduate students. Review and revamp pre-arrival orientation for international students in collaboration with ISO, the Graduate School and other university stakeholders. Work with campus partners to develop academic and co-curricular programming aiming to provide social, academic and career development infrastructures for and on behalf of international students. Create and oversee year-long social programming to integrate international students to LSU and the Baton Rouge community. Design and deliver inter-cultural and leadership programming in collaboration with academic colleges such as the Honors College, and promote faculty and staff involvement in programs and activities. Work closely with the LSU institutional Research department on assessments and evaluations of programs’ effectiveness and participation. 50%

International Cultural Center: Take the lead in re-establishing the ICC’s relationship with the university and Baton Rouge community. Provide guidance and leadership to international student organizations. Work with campus partners to plan and manage budgets to ensure long-term sustainability. Ensure the ICC is a space for meaningful engagement and interaction between international and domestic students. Work with the ICC Coordinator to raise the center’s profile as a programming & inter-cultural space. Foster & maintain outstanding donor relations vis a vis the ICC. 20%

Marketing and Communications: Assist with promoting internationalization and inter-cultural competency at the university-wide level through inter-cultural presentations to students, faculty, and staff. Collaborate with the Associate Director of Communications and Marketing to review and revamp communication efforts to international students and the university community. Work with the ICC Coordinator to oversee operations and activities related to event rentals in the facility. Collaborate with the AD of Communications and Marketing and the ICC Coordinator to implement marketing strategies to promote facility rentals in the Baton Rouge community.  15%

Budget Management: In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Business Operations, oversee international student programming budgets. Maintain compliance and follow university protocols as it pertains to the day-to-day business transactions. 10%

Other Duties as Assigned. 5%

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree with 2-4 years of progressive experience working with international students.

Specific Experience: Significant international education experience. Experience with program development and assessment. Proven track record of collaborating with faculty and campus partners on projects impacting students. Experience with budgets and financial planning. Solid analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Proven experience in developing professional staff members.

Minimum Certifications/Licenses:

Valid Louisiana Driver's License

Additional Requirements:

  • Vehicle Operation - University employees whose principal responsibilities of employment include operating a vehicle, performing maintenance on a vehicle, or supervising any public employee who operates or maintains a vehicle and positions with an expectation to travel will require an MVR and are subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04.

  • FERPA - As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality.

Additional Information: Occasional evening, holiday, or weekend hours. The Assistant Director must be available for early morning and/or evening programs and special circumstances that may arise. The Assistant Director must be eligible to drive as needed on official University business.
