Job Description

JEVS Human Services currently has an exciting opportunity for a talented Student Success Advisor to join the JEVS team at Orleans Technical College. Orleans Technical College is a nonprofit career school committed to helping individuals achieve their employment goals by providing training in a variety of in-demand fields including building trades and healthcare.

Day-to-Day:

Improve student retention, attendance, punctuality and associated work-study skills required for success in training, and leading to employment success.
  • Meet with students with attendance problems and advise them on make-up time and attendance improvement
  • Assist students in securing part-time employment that allows them to remain in school
  • Instruct small and large groups in life skills and/or job readiness to enhance students’ professional development.

Develop and conduct workshops and seminars to support students prior to enrolling, e.g., Success Training, Pre-Orientations, and Young Professionals.
  • Conduct intake interviews with prospective students to determine appropriateness for training and, if admitted, need for special/supportive services.

Coordinate and resolve student problems in conjunction with classroom instructors; provide students with the guidance and encouragement necessary to support their academic and vocational goals.
  • Assist students in solving problems that interfere with training; conduct classroom interventions and mediate when appropriate.
  • Process communications regarding student progress from counselors, parole and probation officers, and other agency (e.g., Department of Welfare) representatives.
  • Provide letters of support for students regarding unemployment compensation, welfare, court appearances, insurance, etc. Enter progress notes into CampusVue

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2+ years’ experience in social service agencies
  • Must be computer-literate in order to access and utilize the school’s Database (CampusVue)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word required
