Position Summary:

The Global Engagement Coordinator acts as the point of first contact in the Global Engagement Office to further international experiences for incoming and outgoing students at Campbell University. The Coordinator is an assistant to the Dean of Global Engagement and provides a wide range of services, including aiding international students in their transition to campus, and close collaboration with International Admissions, faculty and staff in various academic and student affairs offices, office management, record keeping, communications, risk management, policy compliance, program assessment, and logistics for program development. The GEO Coordinator assists faculty with all aspects of international programming and intercultural education and advises students on the full array of off-campus education options. This position requires depth of knowledge and experience in international education; an in-depth understanding of academic, financial, and risk management best practices; and the performance of duties requiring tact, sensitivity, cultural competency, organizational skills, flexibility; and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. While this position does not serve as the Designated School Official (DSO) for the F1 Visa program, future ability to do so or ability to step into an Alternate Reporting Officer (ARO) roll may be welcome.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Dean of Global Engagement with comprehensive internationalization of campus
  • Assist with the integration of international students into campus life, culture, and activities; facilitate workshops, training, programming, and communication to encourage international student engagement; work with Admissions to recruit international students; work with Athletics and the international students recruited for Athletics; Act as liaison for international students to campus services and student support
  • For out-going students: conduct pre-and post-program education, individual and group advising on academic and personal goals, program selection, health and safety issues, cultural training, and other necessary aspects of the international education experience; overseeing peer-advisor/ambassador program development.
  • Lead promotional activities and campus-wide events, e.g., admissions recruitment, visitation days and orientations, family weekends, study abroad fairs, etc.; occasionally travel to international recruiting fairs
  • Develop and implement marketing and communications plans for GEO programs and GEO- related initiatives, including website, print materials, info sessions, study abroad fairs, social media and outreach, and other informational and promotional systems and materials.
  • Coordinate with academic advising center, department advisors, registrar, business and financial aid offices, and other necessary university offices to further the aims of Global Engagement and service to students, aid Dean of Global Engagement and Admissions
  • Maintain accurate budgets and financial transactions for the office and oversea programs, overseeing graduate assistants in program budgeting and logistics.
  • Assisting GEO with building and implementing international programs, including faculty proposals, logistics, budgeting, planning, policy compliance, reporting, and record keeping.
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of the Global Engagement Committee and International Student Committee preparing agendas, taking minutes, preparing records of meetings, keeping files of committee business.
  • Supervise student employees and graduate assistants in the Global Engagement Office
  • Manage data collections and generating reports for assessment of study abroad and international programs.
  • Provide support with risk management in the case of off-campus emergencies.
  • Work occasional weekends and evenings, ability to travel or be on call during oversees programs.
  • Upon hiring, have a broad knowledge of and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to; Title IX, and Information Security including HIPAA, FERPA and other state and federal guidelines.

Education/Experience:
  • Master's Degree or Bachelor's Degree and 3 or more years of progressively responsible administrative experience in international education; (degree emphasis on international education, intercultural studies, intercultural communication, higher education administration, humanities, or related field experience).
  • Proven understanding of the international education field and current trends in study abroad, outreach programs, service learning and other variations of international education.
  • Experience developing, managing, and supporting study abroad programs and exchanges; J1 Visa experience. Knowledge of SEVIS and DHS regulations. (While this position does not serve as the Designated School Official (DSO) for the F1 Visa program, future ability to do so or ability to step into an Alternate Reporting Officer (ARO) roll may be needed in future.)
  • Proven record of administrative competence: e.g., effective project/program management, data management, and reporting.
  • Proven record of managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced, changeable environment.
  • Experience in marketing programs and developing, designing, or overseeing the creation of materials to support GEO activities.
  • Experience studying, living, or working abroad
  • FORUM certification or NAFSA program training a plus

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • An experienced and creative individual with a diplomatic style for responding appropriately to the needs of students, faculty, staff, parents, and others as they relate to international education; ability to redirect requests while also being faculty, student, and parent focused
  • Ability to teach pre-orientation courses and post-program courses.
  • Understanding of international program assessment, methods, and tools.
  • Ability to train and manage student workers.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; design and creative skills a plus
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to create strong, working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and others.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • This position demands accuracy, honesty, integrity, and the ability to work within the Christian mission of Campbell University.
