We work to diversify the Biosciences through outreach and training. *Job Purpose*The Stanford School of Medicine (SoM) Office of Graduate Education (OGE) is hiring an inaugural Assistant Dean, Student Affairs, Well-Being and Inclusion (Academic Program Professional 3). OGE provides centralized programs, services, and advocacy that empower all Biosciences PhD and masters students and the faculty and staff who support them in order to enhance the training experience. We promote the development of community and personal resilience through a lens of diversity, inclusion and equity. We work to diversify the Biosciences through outreach and training. Reporting to the Associate Dean, Graduate Education and Diversity, the Assistant Dean will envision, develop, implement, and evaluate key strategic goals and priorities for student affairs within the Office of Graduate Education. This role will drive vision, goals, and strategy for student well-being and belonging to develop new and build upon existing infrastructures and create new resources as gaps are identified. The Assistant Dean will engage student support responsibilities including triaging student concerns, helping them access appropriate resources, responding appropriately to challenges and/or crises, and collaborating with and making referrals to University offices/organizations to provide broad-based student support while implementing appropriate administrative processes as needed. The Assistant Dean will also be expected to respond accordingly to student incidents and crises; coordinate emergency protocols and provide crisis management support. This position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered for an option of telecommuting from the Bay Area (hybrid of working 2-3 days on-site), subject to operational need. *Core Duties*This role will work with core leaders within OGE, the SoM, and across Stanford broadly in the evaluation, assessment, and continuous improvement of health and well-being related programs and services for students, with a particular emphasis on how these efforts synergize with the broader OGE team’s mission to enhance diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging at Stanford. This position will engage this work both as an individual contributor as well as in supervision of three DEIB Programs Associate Directors. This role will build a hub within OGE, lead this student engagement sub-group of Team OGE, and support individuals in high-touch, high stress roles including student engagement staff as well as student leaders who work closely with OGE.In support of graduate (PhD and masters; about 1200 total students) students in the School of Medicine, the Assistant Dean will be expected to:
* Serve as a primary point of contact for receipt of/and response to reports of graduate students of concern within the School of Medicine (SoM).
* Develop and maintain relationships with SoM faculty, staff, administrators, and embedded SoM service-providers and collaborate with these partners to build an infrastructure for wrap-around support for students in distress or crisis.
* Develop and implement protocols, practices, policies, and/or systems for effective communication, referrals, and student support.
* Manage multiple, on-going, and complex caseload of incidents and complaints and meet with students who have interpersonal, behavioral, health and wellness, or other concerns to counsel, resolve conflict, or set expectations for future behavior.

* Serve as direct supervisor of four full-time staff (one Associate Director, Student Life and Wellness, and three Associate Directors, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging). Oversee engagement of these staff in triaging, managing, and engaging in student support infrastructure.
* Partner with senior leaders in graduate education and at the School of Medicine as well as other campus partners to develop and implement an infrastructure for graduate students to report mistreatment and processes for managing and responding to reports.
* Serve on interdisciplinary committees regarding graduate student well-being and support. Educate and consult on university practices and protocols related to student support.
* Contribute to the development of communications, presentations, and other materials regarding the Office of Graduate Education and University resources to support personal and academic success and/or respond to local, national, and or global issues of impact to graduate student communities.
* Create, foster, and perpetuate a safe, dynamic, and inclusive culture of exemplary student engagement. Focus on and center student belonging, including supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
* Other duties may also be assigned.
*Education & Experience (Required)*Advanced degree and five or more years of relevant experience in area of specialization or combination of relevant education, training, and/or experience. For jobs with financial responsibilities, experience managing a budget and developing financial plans. Experience developing program partnerships and funding sources. *Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Required)*
* Advanced oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in area of specialization.
* Ability to oversee and direct staff.

* Knowledge of and sensitivity to the graduate experience, including knowledge of challenges faced by graduate students from backgrounds historically underrepresented backgrounds in a highly selective institution and ability to assist students in navigating this environment.
* Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement.
* Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with and gain support from a broad and diverse array of constituents, including students, staff, and faculty.
* Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
* Advanced communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and all levels of management.
