The Director of Global Initiatives and Partnerships for Texas Global provides leadership and coordination of strategic programs and initiatives that advance the academic and research mission of the university globally. The incumbent will be a creative and collaborative leader with demonstrated experience in the management of high-impact global initiatives. The incumbent is also expected to have in-depth knowledge of the field with a proven track record of successfully implementing best practices. This position reports to the senior vice provost for global engagement (SVPGE).


Program Development

  • Work closely with the SVPGE to conceptualize, develop and implement strategic programs that advances UT’s global engagement, aligns with strategic priorities, and supports transnational and globally focused activities and research. This may include joint activities with international partners such as academic conferences, research symposia, collaborative teaching, performances or art exhibitions, or programming for graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Assess each program and document faculty/student experiences. Provide reports to SVPGE as requested. Translate stakeholder feedback into program improvements as warranted.
  • Perform appropriate research for new initiatives, as determined by the SVPGE. Scope, plan, and execute often quick‐turnaround projects with limited outside assistance.
  • Lead campus-based grant competitions to expand global engagement on campus. Draft Request for Proposals (RFPs) and review criteria and oversee grant making process including administration of funds, support of project implementation, and grant completion.
  • Develop and facilitate strategic recruitment activities to increase and diversify faculty participation in Texas Global initiatives. Oversee, in collaboration with the Chief Financial & Administrative Officer, the budgets and financial management of each program.
  • Direct internationalization mapping project to inventory faculty research/creative activity, international partnerships, and other academic areas of importance to illustrate UT Austin’s global reach.

Global Partnerships

  • Identify, develop and expand global partnerships that are responsive to and supportive of UT Austin’s academic goals and that strategically enhance and extend the University’s global engagement. Provides guidance and support to UT faculty and administrators on global partnership activity.
  • Manage the development, maintenance, revision, and implementation of international partnership agreements in collaboration with relevant academic, administrative and Texas Global units.
  • Responsible for data collection and analysis, evaluation and reporting of partnership activity and impact, and content development for programs and communication related to UTs global partnership activity.
  • Oversee the coordination of inbound delegations and outbound intra-institutional delegations. Ensure that proposed agendas meet the stated goals of delegation members. Meet with delegations as appropriate and stand in for the SVPGE at requested.


  • Work collaboratively with the SVPGE and Texas Global leadership to further global engagement efforts.
  • Collaborate closely and effectively with a wide array of faculty, senior administrators, and campus partners to develop and advance global engagement initiatives for the institution, creative innovative programs, and further campus internationalization.
  • Partner with internal communications team to contribute to the marketing strategy; ensuring consistency of branding across all media. Partner with Director for Global Alumni Relations to identify opportunities to engage alumni where appropriate.
  • Synthesize and summarize complex information in formats appropriate to various audiences including correspondence, analytical reports, proposals, and briefing documents.
  • Establish and maintain strong collaborative relationships with stakeholders and external partners to manage projects and expand academic programs and partnerships.


  • Lead a team of professional staff committed to developing and administering programs, activities and initiatives that advances the university’s global engagement. Foster collaboration and cultivate professional and career growth of team members by encouraging and providing professional development opportunities. 

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in a related field with at least 10 years of experience working in the field of international higher education. Evidence of strong leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to communicate clearly an institutional vision within the broader framework of internationalization. Experience planning, managing, and executing a comprehensive set of strategic initiatives, goals, and programming. Strong record of innovation in international education; evidence of implementing international academic and/or research partnerships; and sustained experiences working with a diverse array of university and external stakeholders in an effective manner. Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and intercultural communication skills with a strong attention to detail. Demonstration of the following skills: organizational savvy and political acumen, problem solving, project management, decision‐making and critical thinking, ability to manage multiple priorities, planning and coordination, organizational change management, relationship management, and collaboration.  Proven global competence, through life experience, linguistic capacities, and/or living abroad. Equivalent combination or substitution of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD or other terminal degree in a related field. Experience working at a large comprehensive research university or comparable organization. Fluency in a language in addition to English is highly desired.
