POSITION DETAILS
The Department of Nursingis seeking a Nurse Admission Specialist-Academic Advisor for a
full-time position under the Higher Education Officer assistant title beginning Spring 2023.
The Nurse Admission Specialist-Academic Advisor will report directly to the Chair for the
Department of Nursing and will be responsible for the overall admissions process to the
undergraduate, graduate, and doctoralprograms. The Admission Specialist/Academic Advisor
will also act as the liaison to the external centralized applicationvendor to assure data
management is completed efficiently. Candidate will be expected to perform the following:
-Assist with recruitment,admission, and advisementof students to theundergraduate,
graduate, and doctoralnursing program;
-Assist the undergraduateand graduateprogram directorswith application processing
through the centralize application system;
-Represent the nursing program as needed at recruitment events and functions;participate on and off campus recruitment activities;
-Manage and respond to requests for information aboutthe nursing program and prepare
annual admission pool reports and data on graduates;
-Production and distribution of print and internet recruiting and application materialsto
ensure the currency of information accessible on the Nursing website;
-Ensure accurate communication with program applicants by serving as the primary
academic advisor by telephone, email, or in-person to all program applicants;
-Coordinates the applicant selection process by receiving and reviewing applicationmaterial and assist in coordinating the applicant selection process using data from the
centralized application system;
-Help to strengthen re-applications by providing post-decision counseling for
unsuccessful applicants;
-Assist the Department Chair and the Academic Manager in evaluating practice pattern,
salary, andother credentials by continuous tracking of program graduates annually;
-Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and
development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds;
-Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing
professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and
attending training and/or courses required by the Department Chair.
The Department of Nursing and is currently housed in the School of Health Sciences, Human
Services and Nursing (HS2N). The School of Health Sciences, Human Services and Nursing
currently includes six departments: ExerciseScience and Recreation; Health Promotion and
Language and Hearing Sciences, and Nursing. The school is also home to the CUNY Institute
for Health Equity. Departments in the School actively engage with community and government
partners to support evidence-based practices and health equity, with a special emphasis on
urban populations. The faculty are also strongly committed to high quality teaching and
preparation of ethicaland skilled health and human service professionals.
The Lehman College campus is located in the Bronx, New York and is a Senior College within
the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Lehman is a four-year public college
in the Bronx and isrecognized as a Hispanic-serving Institution. The college serves mainly
undergraduate students preparing them for employment, the professions and further study. The
Department of Nursing provides education for nursing students at the undergraduate, graduate,
and doctoral levels.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required, Masters preferred.

A license Registered Nurseor other similar allied health profession with experience in
recruitment and advisement in higher education
Managerial experience overseeing a complex environment
Demonstrated experience developing relationships with external partners
Exceptional oral and written communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team

Strong organizational skills
