About Our Opportunity:

The Student Affairs Specialist will serve as an active member of Student Life Dean of Student's Student Activities and Organization team working with assigned student organizations. This position is responsible for advising numerous student organization leaders, officers, and advisors in our student organization management system. In this role you will provide comprehensive direction, guidance, approval and denial on student organization activities, travel and events. The Specialist will manage, coordinate, and support the Student involvement Programs and student organization professional development through workshops, educational videos and other mechanisms. They will also manage the Campus Labs web-based database, the various branches, as well as work with campus partners to ensure the highest level of performance. This position will cultivate and manage University-community partnerships, faculty partnerships, and alumni networks to enrich campus activities while collaborating with students, staff, and departments to enhance the quality of student life on the Purdue campus. Lastly, this position will advise at least one student organization within the SAO advising structure.

What We're Looking For:

Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, education, or related field.
  • Two years of professional experience in a college union or student activities field.
  • Strong skills in decision making, communication, interpersonal and intercultural relations.
  • Ability to coach and lead others, strategic thinking, and drive for results
  • Ability to supervise of volunteers and work with diverse student populations
  • A clear understanding of student development theories, co-curricular development, learning outcomes and ability to collaborate
  • Ability to relate well to students, develop rapport, trust, and work within a shared decision-making model with the students
  • Quick learner with attention to details
  • Ability to collaborate and relate to people of all ages and backgrounds
  • Must represent the university with professionalism, tact, and diplomacy at all levels.

Preferred:
  • Experience coordinating or participating in student groups.
  • Experience managing volunteers, students, or staff
  • Experience with the Campus Labs/Engage/Anthology system

  • This position requires the ability to work evenings and weekend hours as business need dictates
