THE LIFE OF A STUDENT ADVISOR / CAREER ADVISORAs a part-time Student
Advisor / Career Advisor, you provide one-on-one student support,
classroom instruction, and worksite services. This includes career
explorations, job readiness, self-advocacy, and job shadowing. You
provide mentoring for post-secondary education opportunities,
situational assessments, and work experience opportunities in the
community. Organized and efficient, you create and maintain a consistent
schedule to work with students on an individual basis. This allows you
to help them meet the goals listed in their Individual Education Plans
(IEPs).Your friendly demeanor shines as you develop and maintain
relationships with teachers, faculty, local employers, students,
parents, co-workers, and others as appropriate. You assist the
transition team to meet established goals and advocate for services to
meet the individual needs of students. In order to maintain established
goals, you monitor each student's progress, taking note of their
struggles and successes. Conscientiously, you keep accurate and
up-to-date documentation. You also meet with local businesses to
establish assessment sites when necessary. You love working for a
nonprofit organization and find it incredibly rewarding to provide life
skills education for these amazing students!QUALIFICATIONS FOR A STUDENT
ADVISOR / CAREER ADVISORHigh school diploma or equivalentA heart for
serving individuals with developmental disabilitiesOne year or more of
experience in a related field is preferred but not required. Experience
working with populations with developmental disabilities would be a
plus, as would education or school corporation experience. Are you
