Specific Job Title: Assistant Director of International Admission

Reports to: Associate Director of International Admission

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Associate Director of International Admission, the Assistant Director of International Admission will assist in the execution of an effective recruitment strategy in order to meet undergraduate and graduate international student enrollment goals.

Essential Functions:
  • Conduct effective international recruitment efforts through high school visits, college fairs, agent and guidance counselor events abroad.
  • Assist the Associate Director with overseeing application and credential review for all regional territories.
  • Support the undergraduate Admission Office with international credential evaluation needs.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of both undergraduate and graduate programs with primary focus on undergraduate programs, requiring close collaboration with both admission departments.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with international high school administrators, government agencies, international agents and professional associations as required.
  • Review undergraduate first-year and transfer applications with foreign credentials in a timely manner, consistent with departmental policies, working closely with undergraduate transfer admission.
  • Participate in virtual and in-person recruitment events for prospective international students throughout the admission process.
  • Liaise with various offices throughout the University as necessary.
  • Supervise student workers including daily task oversight and attendance monitoring.
  • Have a working knowledge of social media platforms and assist the international admission counselor with overseeing the student management of departmental social media accounts.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Competencies
  • Strong interpersonal, communications, public speaking and teamwork skills; courtesy, tact, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people in a multicultural environment and with a geographically disbursed team.
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Familiarity with various international educational systems strongly preferred
  • 3+ years of previous admission experience
  • Valid driver license
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Previous experience working in international and transfer student admissions
  • Ability to manage several projects/initiatives simultaneously
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Knowledge of Banner and Technolutions Slate is preferred


Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment and is required to use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copiers, multimedia equipment, etc.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is sometimes required to sit and/or stand for long periods of time. It is required for the employee to move about; sit; to carry work and use controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; communicate. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 20 lbs.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position with expected days being from Monday through Thursday, 8:30-4:30 and Friday 8:30-3:00. This position will require some weekend work. Additionally, this position may require some workdays to extend past standard working hours to accommodate students in different time zones, etc.

Travel

International and domestic travel will be required.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree and 3-7 years related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Master’s degree
  • Fluency in another language or languages

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $67,000. St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.
