Duties:

The Student Services Specialist performs a variety of tasks associated with the academic support, retention, and progression of students admitted to the College of Science. Assists students in routine activities (financial aid, career ed, registration, employment, payments, etc., and monitors academic progress; works to take care of student needs to maintain continuous enrollment and success, collects data, generates reports, processes forms, provides information, maintains confidential information, prepares routine and special reports, other duties as assigned.

The Student Services Specialist performs a variety of tasks associated with the academic support, retention, and progression of students within the College of Science. The Student Services Specialist should also be able to work hand-in-hand with professional school requirements when advising pre-professional majors (pre-med, pre-dentistry, pre-chiropractic, pre-veterinary, pre-pharmacy, pre-PT, and others).

The Students Services Specialist is a professional who will actively pursue the development of a holistic advising relationship to facilitate the success, retention, and continued progression of each student within the College of Science. The Student Services Specialist must be able to identify and recognize students' goals, needs, fears, and anxieties and have knowledge of all campus resources available to support student success.

Problems faced in this position are highly varied, complex, and often non-recurring, which may require novel and creative approaches to resolution. Job responsibilities require the ability to

develop and evaluate alternatives for possible courses of action. Work is performed within guidelines and established standards.

Salary Range $39,300-$44,400 - Salary may be increased based off education, experience, and internal equity. Salary Type Salary Time Type Full-Time Work Location MU - Marshall University

Required Qualifications

Education

Master's degree required.

Experience

Previous experience in advising/counseling (2 years). Previous work with at-risk student population (2 years). Proficiency with Microsoft Office (2 years). Experience with Banner or other student information systems (1 year). Accurate and confidential record keeping (1 year).

Preferred Qualifications

Education

Counseling, student personnel (guidance and counseling), Psychology, or related field

Experience

Experience in professional coaching/advising. Experience using EAB Navigate academic advising platform (1 year). Experience teaching (1 year). Supervision of students or other part-time employees (2 years)
