The Assistant Director, Education & International Programs shares responsibility for implementing the Department’s Graduate Studies and International programs, especially the Master in Health Professions Education (MHPE) program, the largest graduate program in the College of Medicine. The MHPE is a graduate program for faculty who have leadership roles in health professions education, ie faculty at medical, dental, pharmacy, nursing, and other health professions schools. This position also oversees the Certificate in Health Professions Education (CHPE) and provides guidance and support to the PhD and Master in Patient Safety Leadership programs as needed.

The Assistant Director is a full participant in team-based policy-setting deliberations for the above listed onsite and online graduate degree programs and international fellowship programs housed in the Department of Medical Education. This position acts as departmental liaison to Graduate College and other agencies (including international funding and research agencies) and negotiates and manages contracts with vendors.

Job Responsibilities:

* Oversee program policy setting, curriculum planning and evaluation, and strategic planning for the MHPE program.

* Design course and faculty evaluation instruments; collect and analyze evaluation data from multiple sources, including student and faculty interviews, course evaluations, surveys, publication surveillance.

* Assist in writing grants and contracts related to the MHPE and international programs develop marketing materials, student and faculty surveys, summary reports, and student advising materials.

* Plan and implement logistics for programmatic events, including the MHPE summer conference, onsite courses, continuing medical education and professional development offerings, and vendor negotiations.

* Chair the MHPE admissions committee and prepare candidate materials for review. Participate in student recruitment efforts including staffing exhibits at national conferences.

* Develop and implement procedures to track and monitor student progress through the MHPE program. Communicate with and advise students regarding program logistics and requirements.

* Create communications in multiple formats for internal and external domestic and international audiences.

* Maintain an alumni database and alumni relations.

* Plan, assign and review work of staff to ensure that group objectives are met. Hire, train, develop and manage staff to ensure that a qualified staff exists to meet group objectives.

* Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


* Minimum of a Masters degree in education, English, or social sciences required.

* Minimum of 5 years' experience with curricular planning and design, educational program evaluation,and educational program policy-setting.

* Project design and management.

* Expertise in writing and editing.

* Budgetary experience.

* Independent judgment and strategic and critical thinking.
