Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) seeks a collaborative, innovative, and strategic international enrollment management professional for the position of Director of International Admission. This position will help lead IUPUI’s international admissions and recruitment efforts into a bold new future as we transform our campus into the state’s next-generation urban research university, Indiana University Indianapolis, through our Vision 2024 initiative.

Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for International Affairs, IUPUI / Associate Vice President for International Affairs, Indiana University, the DIA serves as a key member of the Office of International Affairs leadership team. The DIA will develop, lead, and execute the vision and strategy that will help align international enrollment levels with the University’s mission and strategic plan. The DIA will oversee recruitment and admissions of undergraduate international students and provide baseline recruitment support for international graduate student recruitment and admissions. The position will lead a dynamic and talented team of eleven employees, will supervise six direct reports including an India-based Recruitment Manager.

This is primarily an on-campus role in Indianapolis, Indiana with hybrid work options available after a period of initial onboarding. The University aims to fill the position in the spring of 2023.

Minimum requirements include a bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred), successful and progressive professional and leadership experience suitable for a director level, and demonstrated success in planning, developing, and implementing international enrollment management initiatives.

Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for International Affairs, IUPUI and the Associate Vice President for International Affairs, Indiana University, the Director of International Admissions (DIA) leads the development and implementation of a strategic recruitment plan for international students while also facilitating admission of international students and supporting the development and implementation of recruitment-based cooperative international enrollment agreements with international institutions.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Provides dynamic leadership for the International Admissions Office a team-based unit comprised of 12 full- time staff who work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment to carry out essential international enrollment functions, including development and deployment of recruitment strategy, implementation of university enterprise systems to support undergraduate and graduate international admissions operations, international credential evaluations, and issuance of initial immigration documentation.
  • Directly supervises 4 Assistant Directors, an India-based Recruitment Manager, and a CRM Business Analyst who manage graduate and undergraduate operations, recruitment, and communications.
  • Serves as a trusted voice in the highly competitive international student enrollment environment to cultivate external relationships and position IUPUI and the future Indiana University Indianapolis as a world-class institution.

  • Provides strategic leadership and direction in international undergraduate, transfer, and graduate admissions, including international and domestic recruitment travel and outreach strategies.
  • Provides baseline campus support for international graduate student recruitment.
  • Directs 4 assistant directors charged with management of admissions operations such as application processing, foreign credential evaluation, and communication/outreach to prospective, applied, and admitted students.
  • Ensures a creative and productive team-based work environment that values collaborative problem-solving and exceptional service to internal and external partners.
  • Sustains strong relationships across the various campus and university units engaged in student enrollment management functions to ensure effective integration of international admissions processes across the institution.
  • Articulates data and functional requirements for effective support of the international admission process throughout the enrollment funnel.
  • Works collaboratively and creatively with academic units engaging in recruitment-based international projects and collaborative agreements.
  • Provides strategic advice regarding academic credentials, enrollment trends, and facilitates credit transfer articulations.

General Responsibilities

  • Provides highest level of operational leadership and coordination of assigned staff members to define admissions and recruitment methodologies and standards; provides direction and guidance on high priority admissions and recruitment projects/initiatives.
  • Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives, including managing project timelines/deliverables and developing resource plans for multi-project/multiphase admissions and recruitment initiatives.
  • Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but not limited to hiring, promotion, performance management, and dismissal.
  • Manages high level assignments and allocation of admissions and recruitment resources, including negotiating and coordinating initiatives that involve staff in other departments/areas/teams; may coordinate large-scale admissions and recruitment projects with a wide audiences in support of academic initiatives. Makes budgetary recommendations/proposals based on resource needs and ensures cost containment.
  • Researches and stays up-to-date on new industry admissions and recruitment standards, technologies, policies, and procedures; responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures to address business needs.
  • Works collaboratively with other admissions and recruitment leaders across departments in recommending standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures.
  • Prepares management reports and summaries for senior administration, executive, steering and advisory committees; acts as advisor to executive committees; serves on various university committees, communities of practice, and task forces related to admissions and recruitment

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required

Bachelor's degree in business, public policy, or related field

Preferred

  • Master's degree in communications, public relations, media arts, graphic arts, or related area

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 4 years in admissions, enrollment management, higher education student affairs, business, or related field 1 year of management experience in relevant field.
  • 1 year of management experience in relevant field.

Preferred

  • 5 years progressively responsible administrative management experience, including oversight of admissions staff and a proven track record in building enrollment.
  • Direct experience in leading international recruitment and admissions operations within a doctoral level institution
