The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Department of Computer Science in the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) is seeking a dynamic Student Affairs Advisor to join our team and build their career. Reporting to the Director of Academic Administration and Student Services, within a collaborative team, the Advisor is the face and front line of advising for the Undergraduate and Masters student populations for the Department of Computer Science. They advise students in-person via our front desk and the department's advising inboxes, working closely with colleagues to support students and resolve issues quickly. The Advisor also assists with administrative tasks and responsibilities such as maintaining accurate student records and updating the department website. They enforce SEAS/GSAS/GS/CC policies and assist with relevant events and programming to further students' academic experiences.

Responsibilities
  • (40%) Student Services:

MS Student Advising and Support. Advises approximately 1,300 MS and CSMS Bridge Program students regarding academic progress, general degree requirements, program options, administrative policies and procedures. Connects students to specialist advising for career development, immigration and personal issues. Refers students to their respective faculty advisors to address electives, career-related questions, and other issues. Addresses admissions inquiries and resolves administrative concerns for students; interprets and enforces SEAS and GSAS rules and policies. Maintains and updates student records. Assists in monitoring academic progress and managing the MS graduation clearance processes
  • (40%) Student Services:

UG Student Advising and Support. Advises approximately 1,200 CS undergraduate students regarding academic progress, general degree requirements, program options, administrative policies and procedures. Connects students to specialist advising immigration and personal issues. Refers students to their respective faculty advisors to address electives, and other issues. Addresses admissions inquiries and resolves administrative concerns for prospective students and parents, interprets and enforces SEAS, CC, GS, and Barnard rules and policies. Maintains and updates student records. Assists in monitoring academic progress and managing the UG graduation clearance processes.
  • (10%) Student Services:

Events and Programming. Collaborates with the Student Services team to plan and execute various events (e.g. Campus visit day, PhD social events and departmental events, Bridge recruitment and info session events, Undergrad and MS orientations, graduation events, etc) to enrich student life and build a strong sense of community within the CS programs.
  • (10%) Performs other tasks, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree and/or its equivalent, with a preference for higher education and/or advising preferred. Minimum of 1-2 years of related experience.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Experience in working with diverse populations and in an open office environment. Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Experience working with higher education student populations and the ability to occasionally work extended hours to oversee community-building activities and events.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, interpersonal, organizational, and written and verbal communication and computer skills required.
  • Must be detail oriented and highly organized. Must have strong proficiency with MS Office, including Word and Excel, and Google Docs.
  • Positive, forward-thinking, mission-oriented attitude and sense of humor a must.
