Reporting to the Vice Provost for Global Engagement, the Director for International Admissions is responsible for leading, collaborating and supporting the ongoing development and implementation of campus-wide strategies to attract and enroll prospective international freshmen and undergraduate transfer. The Director will collaborate with the Director of International Student and Scholar Services, the Assistant Vice Provost for Enrollment Management / Director of Admissions and Scholarships, and campus partners to optimize international student admissions processes, participate in and/or organize prospective student programs, conferences, and recruitment events in target markets across the globe. The individual in this position will collaborate in the establishment of long-term relationships with feeder institutions, prospective students, and their support people (parents, advisors, agents, etc).

Essential Job Responsibilities include:



  • Review admission files, determine eligibility, decide which applicants are qualified for admission to Creighton and merit awards. The final decision will be coordinated with the Assistant Vice Provost for Enrollment Management / Director of Admissions and Scholarships, and Faculty Admissions Committees as appropriate.



  • Assist with the development of the international marketing strategy and implementation of approved plans.



  • Make recommendations to the Vice Provost for Global Engagement regarding the management of relationship(s) with recruitment vendors / agents. Manage specific prelateships as assigned.



  • In collaboration with the Director of International Student and Scholar Services, coordinate the process to obtain all documentation required for international applicants to secure a U.S.



  • Liaise with the Director of the Intensive English Language Institute (IELI) in the development of the marketing plan for that unit and participate in IELI recruitment activities when opportunities arise.






  • Develop and maintain international prospect, applicant, and high school contacts within the Slate system.



  • Represent the University in a variety of settings such as high school presentations, college fairs, on-campus visits, events and trips focused on international student recruitment.



  • Network with students, faculty, staff and alumni to recruit qualified international students to Creighton. Engage GEO staff and current international students in recruitment efforts.



  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with appropriate counselor, administrative and teacher contacts at high schools.



  • Counsel prospective students and families about admission, financial aid, academic programs and student life at Creighton



  • Manage visit and other special event programs for admitted international students that effectively increase matriculation and ensure safe and informative experiences for students and their families - during both day and overnight visits.



  • Assist the ISSS team with new student orientation activities. Collaborate with all members of the Global Engagement Office with projects, programs, events, daily tour/overview sessions and multicultural recruitment and retention events as assigned.



  • Assess and analyze results of recruitment and program management efforts and then develop and implement appropriate changes based on the analyses.



  • Provide specialized written and/or verbal update reports on international student recruitment efforts for distribution to University units as guided by the Vice Provost for Global Engagement.



  • Monitor recruitment data and ensure there is accurate communication of admission, financial aid, and university policies to the general public. Additionally, the Director will coordinate with the Enrollment Management Marketing team to inform recruitment campaigns and maintain existing promotional publications, websites, and admissions guides.




Requirements (knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience):



  • Bachelor’s degree



  • Previous professional experience in international student enrollment management issues such as admissions, retention, financial aid.



  • Ability to develop mutually beneficial relationships with many different constituencies including students, families and faculty and staff colleagues



  • Strong interpersonal skills



  • Ability to work independently and within a team



  • Familiarity with immigration procedures and SEVIS is highly desirable including knowledge of F1 and J1 visa regulations. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident in order to function as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Office (ARO).



  • Familiarity with international transcripts and educational systems



  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the needs and customs specific to international students



  • Awareness of current international markets and competition



  • Ability to travel abroad and within the United States



  • Ability to manage, train, motivate and schedule groups of volunteers and student assistants



  • Ability to establish and communicate with appropriate contacts in a timely way to insure smooth running of special events and projects



  • Ability to accomplish simultaneous tasks



  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and Passport



  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends



  • Familiarity with Admission Office functions.



  • Knowledgeable and skilled in the use of technological tools and systems used to support and deliver admission programs and services to prospective and current students including creating and using databases, report generators, word processing, electronic mail, spreadsheets, and electronic presentations



  • Understanding of and commitment to Creighton’s Vision, Mission and Values



  • Member of NAFSA and/or other international student recruitment and education professional associations.




Required Licenses/Certifications:

Preference will be given to candidates who have successfully obtained AIRC International Student Recruitment and Enrollment Planning certificate or equivalent.
